Well, after 20-25 year layoff I decided to get back into magic again, and have the fever big time.
I decided to make my comeback today at my 7-year-old daughters school Christmas Party since they were looking for something to entertain the kids. I forgot some of the golden rules of magic like practice every single trick you plan to do. I ended up screwing up a couple times just because I hadn't given any time to the tricks. I got flustered with all the kids who just would not listen to the teacher and kept trying to pick up and look at everything. Also forgot one other thing and that is the fact that even though I still mentally think like a kid...years of to much coffee, cigarettes, stress etc.... has made me a little more nervous. I did the Needle Through Balloon trick without practicing a few times. I used the balloon lie detector patter and had asked if everyone had been good for Santa it popped on the way out and I just said, “Oh Oh, looks like someone might have been stretching the truth.” But I was just not expecting the balloon to break and it jittered me for a few minutes afterwards. Luckily the second time went flawless. The other great thing that had me a little nervous was the young lady who kept repeating very loudly that her mom had said that all magic was the devils work and the kids shouldn't be watching me. I finally just twisted my head around twice and spat green pea soup all over her... kidding! I was not prepared for that one so I just explained that she was confusing fun magic with black magic and left it at that. The highlight of my day came when I used the old gag lines where you say, “Think of a number between 1-10, ok what was it?” Answer 6 and you say, “Right very good”, Then you repeat it from 1-20 and again the kid is right somehow. By this time, the kids get so excited that they start to believe you are really doing something. I then said 1-30 and again the kid was right. Now the funniest thing I have come across for a while... one of the mothers looks at me in amazement and says wow! Let me try! I really had trouble keeping a straight face on that one. Anyway thanks to anyone who got this far. I do tend to ramble. Have a great holiday to all. Nick Zender-Akron,Ohio Today I was "The Great Rendez." (Thats Zender spelled backwards.) |

Wow, that sounds like my first time too! Kids were all over me and I thought I was going to lose it. Somehow I made it through and I am still here having lots of fun! Stick with it!

The more you do the more you learn. Just make sure to always allow yourself for self-evaluation after every performance. Critique yourself often and grow as a performer.
