I have always liked the idea of the Jumping Signed Bill in Glass trick. I have only seen the demo once. I purchased it at KIDabra in August and last night I finally had some downtime to take a look at it. I am very impressed with not only the workings of the props, but the entire routine itself looks very powerful.
I am an advocate for having a few real strong tricks in your kids shows for the older kids and adults. Signed card in Card Frame is in show #1 and it kills. Signed card in balloon is in my show #2 and gets great reactions. Has anyone ever used this effect in a kid show? I'm adding this to my show and I am looking for feedback/ideas/insight using the effect. I have promotional $100 Bills with my information on the inside. I'm thinking of having a child sign the inside of the bill (write their name) then fold the bill accordingly, then performing the trick. That way, I would't have to borrow a $1 bill in the middle of the show. (We all know that nobody is in a hurry to reach for their wallets or pocket books when asked to borrow a bill!) Then let the child keep the bill at the end. Looking for your thoughts

Hi Tommy.
I have this effect and use it just about every show I do. It goes over great for adults as well as kids. I use a lot of jokes while performing it. I love your idea using a promo bill with it. When I can I use a flaming wallet so no one has to give up a buck. I then tell everyone that my bank was giving away free pens so I grabbed one. I then show them an office type pen that has a chain on it, the kind they use that's attached to something so you can't steal it. On mine I have a small part of a table still attatched. I then tell the assistant to write anything on it they want, a dog, cat, thier name, anything they want, they can write it on the front, back or if they are really careful on the side. Anyway, that's the basics I use and it works pretty good for me. I hope this gives you a few ideas, it's a lot of fun to perform and it does amaze kids as well. Take care, Bob. |

I'm not familiar with the "Jumping Signed Bill in the Glass." What's the effect, and who markets it?

Actually it is the jumping signed bill.
There was one for sale here a short time ago. Bob. |

You can still get it from Penguin Magic, as well as on e-Bay. I like using it as a prelude to Spellbinder's "Trial by Fire" which is a variation on Sam Berland's "Devil's Dollar." The Jumping Bill is "gimmicky" and can't be examined, but I offer to do it again without the metal tubes and glasses- just an old window envelope from a bill I've been meaning to pay. It all gets "accidentally" consumed in flames, leaving only the signed bill in Spellbinder's new picture frame trick, which is ungimmicked and can be examined. Of course, you have to contend with smoke alarms to present it properly, but there are alternatives to burning the bill, such as tearing up the envelope into little bitty pieces. Spellbinder's "Trial by Fire" is found in his Crafty Shoppe of Little Horrors at The Magic Nook.
