The Magic Book by Harry Lorayne, Doc Eason swears by it. Bill Tarr's Now You See It series if you can find them.

Royal Road to Card Magic isn't on yourself yet? Pick it up! There is a lot of great card magic in there.

Interesting - I didn't know Royal Road To Card Magic existed until my late teens - 19/20 years old. No put down for that great book, of course, but I'd been doing card magic - for the money - for almost a decade by then. But, hey, he's said it many times, in quite a few posts - best to listen to him.

There are SO many great books out there! Any of the above suggested would be excellent. In addition to buying books, don't forget to check the local library. It is always a great resource, especially for those just getting started!

Echoing nytaylor, libraries are good suggestions. For instance, I'm glad I checked out Joshua Jay rather than buying it. He's got good material and I liked what he presented, but I wasn't actually keen on how he wrote up the information. It felt sort of condescending, but it was written for younger people than me, so that's my disconnect/problem and not his. My library isn't great, but I did get books from discards there, too.
