Is your gazing ball glass?
If metal, how did you fashion the neck and base? Where did you find highly polished aluminum strips/bands. Never seen anything like that on the market. |

It seems to me that the vase is smaller than both tubes. It is supposed to appear larger so that the mystery is how such a huge vase could have fit into such small tubes. Perhaps it is the camera angle or the height of the tubes, but that is my first impression.
My own solution was to make the tubes rectangular rather than round, but getting the vase to really appear too small to fit was not solved until recently when I made a version in which the tube it came out of actually shrunk afterwards. I haven't put that version in e-Book form yet.

The gazing ball is all copper. They do have glass and steel gazing balls but you can find them in copper. This is an 8" gazing ball.
Then took parts from two other copper vases that I found on eBay .... One to make the lip and another to make the base. All solid copper parts. Since they were all copper ...soldered them to top and bottom. Took a little while to find the correct dimensions for both parts. Then highly polished it and gave a lacquer finish. You are correct... Aluminum strips don't come that way. I had to highly polish them on a lathe. Some hard dirty work but worth while. The tubes are cement forming tubes that you can buy at Lowe's. they have slightly different diameters. The smaller tube barely fits over the vase so when you display that the ball can't fit back into the tube either finger behind will do the trick with a little acting and no one notices. The tubes you are talking about are slightly smaller at one end. Could have fabricated steel tube but this time went with forming tubes. In performance you go over it so quickly no one notices or has said anything.... Their more amazed at where everything comes from. Inside there are two compartments. One to hold load and other sack can either hold water or rice. This was quit the project. Thought it would be easier at first until got into the fine details. Literally...Every single part, nut and bolt had to be customized to work and fit properly. |

Thank you, you did a nice job, I wondered how you made the jar lip and base, thank you for explaining. I searched and only found cement tubes that are cardboard type of material that is treated to resist leak through. I did not see any that was very close in size to each other, are they available?

Now wanting to start on stand or table for performance. At first thought... Thought I would use a rosewood plant stand and modify it to work as a stand. I like the oriental style and theme and the rosewood stand should provide that look. Does anyone have any information on construction of a Kuma Tube stand or table?? Wanting to finish project with stand but would like some information about different options before I get started
Thanks Mike |

Yes , there are tubes in very close differing sizes. They have them at Lowe's. they come in 8", 10" and 12". But for shipping purposes they make them in very close differing sizes so they can pack inside each other. The single Lowe's you go to may not carry all three sizes. Ask or check on line which stores will carry the differing sizes. I started with vase construction first then had in mind the sizes I would need. Then went to Lowe's to get the exact sizes I wanted to fit properly.

Some believe the table should be built similar the Westgate Bowl production table/stand/tray. It is like a elevator for the jug so the table top will be flat when introducing the tubes.

Looks good
BTW the finger-behind is done so the vase doesn’t fit the smaller way… Then you turn it over and it still doesn’t fit and you walk away leaving it on top of the tubes. Ward, You must have been around a little while to know that trick.
