What's the craic?
Haven't been on here in a while, hope everyone is well and not in prison. Last few months I've been focusing on developing a double act called "The Supernatural brothers" Mixture of mindreading plus stand up. The style is sometimes manic, dark, and the effects in my opinion are strong. Anyways we recorded a gig few weeks back and wanted something to showcase audience reactions... basically to show bits of laughter, clapping and all that jazz. Be great to get an opinion on it. http://vimeo.com/78464914 Password on the video is watermelon Sound out! Pete P.S. Mods I do realise that we have an area for vids but I rather get the opinions of the people here so would appreciate it if it wasn't moved |

Might have just been my laptop set up...but you guys sounded very irish...
honestly - I found it a little hard to hear you guys (understood you perfectly) - maybe it was a little too fast in its editing? sometimes I felt a bit lost and wasn't sure what was going on...and there were a couple of moments where things looked out of focus which might not be a good thing... overall though, I was smiling along with it...
I've asked to be banned

Hey Iain,
Good hearing from you! We are born and raised in south of Ireland so no doubt most people here will have difficulty understanding us Great points that I'll pass along to the lads, appreciate your comments as always! Thanks! Pete |

Hi Pete!
Great to see you back on again. I enjoyed your promo, perhaps the background music was a little too loud at times, but,it was plain to see that everyone was having a good time. That's the name of the game. Well done again. Robbie.

Couldn't understand a lot of it LOL! but what I did understand and see was a very polished act and people being thoroughly entertained. It looked great Pete, and it was obvious the audience luv'd it too. Great stuff. (It wasn't the accent, but the sound quality by the way). You guys would smash it where I'm from Down Under

Yes apart from the sound issue, the audience seemed to come across as enjoying it.
Now if I was someone hiring you, that would be my first concern. In business it really doesn't matter what it is you are doing, it would matter to me that you had a large audience and they were entertained. That is a major problem with a lot of magician promo videos, they are all "Look at me and how wonderful I am" whereas someone booking you is much more interested in bums on seats and a happy audience, They will come back again and that is good business. So it is good that you have showed audience reaction and comments as those are the things that will get you bookings. So lower the music and tweak the mic sound with a bit less bass and you will have something nice to show prospective bookers. As far as comprehension goes, being from England I understood you perfectly well but if you are promoting to another country, you might like to slow down a bit. (Hard to do when your show seems rapid paced) To your own people in your own tongue you can babble on at a rapid pace. It's like my two Scottish brothers friends; when talking to us English they slow down but when talking you each other it is very hard to follow.

Good job, Pete. I was raised hearing that accent so I had no problem understanding you.

Hey Robbie how are things?! Good shout regarding background music, will get on to the lads to sort it out, hope all is well with you and thanks as always!
Takeachance : Thanks very much for the nice words, I have a load of friends down under ( seems like half the country is there) love to pop over some time Shrubsole : Thank you very much for the detailed reply. That's exactly what we were going for with this vid. It's not really showcasing the act really more so the audience reaction to it etc It would be a vid for potential bookers more so than the general public Also good call about slowing down.. we had a mini tour in Denmark and Sweden last year and very quickly we learnt to go slooooooooow Thanks again for the response and help, tis very much appreciated! Bob : Thank you! Didn't realise you have an Irish background? |

Pete-
Didn't my surname give you a clue about my ancestry? |

Ha! I actually never met a Cassidy before so didn't dawn on me ( might be more common up north) - I can be tad slow though! Funnily enough I just googled your surname and got few interesting facts which led me to google my own.. all the years I've been on this planet I never gave any thought to it. If my grandfather was still alive today he would clip me around the ear :O

My grandfather was a Cassidy and my grandmother was an O'Farrelly from County Fermanagh. Names get jumbled, though. My grandmother also called herself a Farley.
Your great playwright, Seán O'Casey, was born a Cassidy (or Casey, or, in Irish, Ó Cathasaigh) My grandma would have clipped you around the ear too! |

But, on the other hand, I'm sure my grandma would have loved your act!

Just got out our phone book here ( Cork County ) and there are 25 Cassidy families on it, I wouldn't have known at all! Tonight when I get home I must look into my own family name a little deeper... I appreciate the inspiration and the nice words Bob!

Pete, I could not have imagined a more Irish name than Cassidy. The country is full of them. O'Farrelly is less common by far, though, Bob. Still distinctly Irish, just exclusive.

I always enjoy your videos Pete.
The Supernatural Brothers looked like a hit with the audience. I really must come to see one of your shows one day. Steve |

I really like the Supernatural brothers I thought your other videos were really funny. This one jumps all over the place as a promo doesn't have a good structure editing or production value.....
Maybe worth getting some film students to help you put together a good promo? Personally I wouldn't use this to promote yourselves. Doesn't do you justice. |

Hey Tony! I asked one the lads about Cassidy and he was the same opinion as me! I guess we are sheltered down here
Steve : Thanks very much, if you're ever over let me know! Mindpunisher : Great hearing from you again! Hope all is well This time round we were just going for audience reaction rather than showcasing the actual act. The show itself barely featured in this video because of this specific aim. You are right though as it does kind of jump all over the place and there is no real structure which does needs to be looked at. Definitely will take your words on board and as always really appreciate your feedback! Really appreciate all the comments and have loads to work with from them! I owe you all a pint! |

We heard them but didn't see them.It seriously doesn't do you justice. You might be good comedy mentalists but the filming needs to be better. It really is worth finding someone with basic skills and decent equipment. It would make you look so much better. And probably get you more gigs! |
