So my girlfriend was watching cupcake wars and didn't know Justin Willman does magic. I said yea hes pretty good check him out. She found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFGMTZiAzxA of him at the magic castle doing the MPS and then at the end 6:50 mark does a trick with a rabbit where he asks the guy in the crowd to name any animal. Guy says tiger its obviously not a tiger but it turns out the bunny is in a tiger suit. I have a rabbit but have never used him in my shows or any live animal for that matter so this may be the easiest animal trick in the book but I don't know. Anyone know about this effect as she was interested in doing it.

I don't understand why you think this is would be okay to do another persons routine. It is not available as it is Justin Willman property. You can contact Justin Willman and offer him enough money and he might sell you performance rights, although I doubt it.

I guess I didn't make myself clear, Im not looking to perform this in a show and she doesn't perform in shows. She just messes around with magic at home and when friends come over and thought this would be fun to mess with. I understand that you never use someone's tricks that are their property. However with magic it is very hard sometimes to know what's someone's property and what's public domain. Especially when it comes to animal effects as I have never done any. So that's why I asked about it not knowing if this is a common trick that people have done time and time again with animals or not. I was simply trying to get information on its origin, can you do it with any animal names, is it a stooge. I didn't think I rabbit in a tiger suit was master animal illusion. Obviously from your response it is not a common trick and something that is his signature effect so those answers don't need to be given and that's fine.
Also lets be clear I never said I wanted to do his routine I said effect and that's very different. Justin does MPS, Healed and Sealed, Color match and other mainstream tricks. Do I have to ask his permission to do those effects, no I don't. I would have to ask if I presented it in the exact fashion he does and that's not what we are talking about here. |

Yea doing the effect, I guess I can see how that can be taken the wrong way. I will try to be more clear in my explanations. Thank you.

I have an interesting question.
In a world with thousands and thousands of magicians, if ONE does something they truly think is totally unique to them, and someone says Joe Magic does that in Alaska, who really owns the trick? |
