I recently have been asked by a friend of mine to sort of take him under my wing and teach him some magic. he chose coins, abut is gung ho on scotch and soda. While I think this is a good trick for a beginner, I hate ot see him shell out 25 dollars for one trick, show it and have it collect dust. I'm gonna lend him my Bobo coin magic book, but I was wondering what, if any, else I should suggest for him? FOlding coin? simple coin tricks? Any suggestions.

To start? learn to carry a clean hankerchief.
might want to teach them the sypmpathetic coins, dime&penney, use of HPC to do coins through table. the bit with the matchbox wrapped in rubber can wait until they learn to find a borrowed coin in odd places in the room. Then it might be time to get books and toys. That is if you want them to ge GOOD at coins.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

Let him get Scotch and Soda. Let him play with it for a while.
Then do my ungimmicked Scotch and Soda for him. It will be an object lesson in the superiority of sleight of hand over gaffs. I'll PM the ungimmicked Scotch and Soda routine to you if you are unfamiliar with it. It was published in the Linking Ring about 2 years ago. Let the fellow learn a lesson the hard way. Then he will understand.
