It isn't impromptu if you're using a marked deck.

Harry is right. It's not impromptu if you're using a marked deck. Of course, you can do any of his excellent impromptu effects with a marked deck, but that would defeat the purpose.
Speaking of that, what is your purpose behind using a marked deck? Wouldn't that drive the type of effect you want to do? You don't seem like you have much experience in card magic if you have to ask how to use a marked deck. I recommend you start with the sticky threads at the top of this "New to magic" forum. That will give you a lot of good places to start and a basis for more specific questions. |

You'd be surprised what can be done without a marked deck. For one example, I have you cut to any card (regular deck) and can tell you what it is before you even look at it. Is that worth something?

Interesting DWRackley , is it stacked?
The trick I'm doing with my marked deck is -Spread cards facedown on table -Look at one of the marks say (X) -Say to spec to push over (X) -Then if they push (Y) over I tell them to push that for second card (Y) -Repeat for Z -I spread the cards out so that its very likely they will choose (X) out of 3 times so it could just look like they push over all the card I told them to. -If they don't push the (X) over I say I pick a card too and I will pick the (Z) but actually taking my (X). Looks impossible to normal people but still so simply. |

As a beginner it seems most recommend to start with regular decks and get proper handling and familiarity with it before going to marked decks and gaffs

If you can still find it, the DeLand deck was a virtual textbook in card gaffery. Marked, stacked and stripped, you could do some amazing things with it, including tell how many cards had been cut, and how far down a certain card was. But more than anything else, it taught skills that could be carried over to other, more normal looking cards.

Think about every trick you CAN do and then add the key card idea face down. You know where every card it with them all being face down.
Shuffle deck, a cull, a top change, and just sighting the marks quickly you can do miracles. |

Colin McLeod has one on his DVD. It uses the GT speedreader deck which is super easy to see. It's taken from a David Berglass effect I believe and the basic idea is that you read the spectators mind then they read yours.
