I saw that threads had been started for Alex's 2 other new releases, but not this one, so I thought I'd give you guys a heads-up!
Arson is now available - it's a very cool & commercial card effect. Alex has been doing this for over 6 years, and I've been doing it for about 4 or 5. Always goes over VERY well with audiences! The DVD also includes some cool custom gimmicks that can be used with the Arson routine, or they can be used stand-alone for your own creative ideas and routines. You can check it out over at The Blue Crown. Kevin

Reminds me of David Loosleys 'squashed' Effect I bought a few years back, the routine I mean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8lfcMJkw3k But done with a burn mark and a lighter. Nice idea best R |

This is a winner- saw it at Alex's lecture. Tons of magic with relatively little work.

Is there a gimmick included to vanish the lighter, or is that done by sleight of hand? Thanks.

LankyHobo - no gimmick included to vanish the lighter. Other gimmicks are provided that you'll need for the core effect, as well as the kicker revelation at the end.
Alex covers a couple of ideas for the lighter vanish on the video. Kevin

So, at :56 on the video, the lady is clearly holding the lighter in her hand, while holding up the Queen of Hearts to the camera. A split second later, Alex now holds up the lighter in HIS hand, asking her if she knows what it is. I dunno... I thought it was just a regular lighter myself, but that one seems to have magical transporting powers. Abra-camera-dabra. Wow.
OK, I don't get this... someone else put out the same effect a year or two ago, but with a bottle cap instead of a lighter. Does this mean I could put out a version with a battery, sugar packet, coin, nail clippers, credit card, Sharpie cap, or lifesaver (I was going to say a chocolate kiss, but that one has also been put out as well - see video below) and market it as my own?? (Actually, the Sharpie cap would make more sense; they sign a card and you mispaced the cap, which appears on the back of the signed card, then pops off into their hand, to be put back on the Sharpie. Full circle. Plus, you can buy one of those Sharpies now, with the name of a playing card on the side. Hot dang, where can I get a DB card printed with a Sharpie cap on one side? I'm going to be a trillionaire now) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpWR4LqNMmA This video is dated 2007 and the trick starts at :45

A card is looked at placed back in the deck, you then explain that there is a key to every effect you just have to know what to look for, as you say this you spread through the deck and on the back of one card is a picture of a real key and the word key, turn it over, it is the card. Then you place the card over there hand and POP a real key comes out and the card is just left with the word key on it. After I released it, about 2 yrs later I started seeing the exact same thing being played with by other magicians. It is a fun little idea, and not one person gave me or mike or sankey credit for it. Sucks but oh well. You can see the write up in my 2005 HUH notes. I came up with this late 2002 and performed it in my restaurant work for years. As long as a creator brings something new to the table of ideas on a certain plot I am all for the release of it. But when it is almost an exact duplicate just diff. props..mehh JM |

When Alex first came up with the idea for Arson, I believe the only other similar routine that he was aware of was the version with the chocolate kiss - which seems to generally be the most well-known version of this type of effect.
Alex released a core version of Arson on his AM/PM DVD in early 2009. The bottle cap routine was released within a very similar window - I believe they came out within about a month or so of each other. Rick - any edits in the trailer are aesthetic, not there to hide anything. There are about 4 or 5 live performances on the DVD, and Alex has been performing this for years. No need for camera trickery. This is the first I'm hearing of your version, Justin. I can say without a doubt that Arson brings something new to the table. While the core routine must certainly have similarities to other routines out there (sure, you could do this with candy, lighters, or any other small object) Alex provides a few other handlings, as well as a kicker ending with the reveal on the lighter. One of the cool handlings on the Arson DVD is a version of Red Hot Mama/Chicago opener that involves having 3 selected cards, instead of the traditional 2. And of course, some interesting ways of revealing. Hopefully those who've ordered the DVD will soon receive it and be able to post their thoughts. Kevin

Just got done watching this and I think it is really well thought out, it has a very pretty and logical sequencing, and I definitely recommend this for the worker!

I didn't buy anything. I made my own. The only thing that would make it a little better is to have the spectators card named on the lighter. although I think that is a little overkill. I have been performing this quite a bit. It seems the best reaction I get from the trick is the lighter vanish "where did the lighter go"? I also notice when you produce the burnt card, the spectator always wants to grab it and turn it over to see if its really their card. It just seems to me that this trick should get better reactions than it does. I also have been doing Alex Pandrea's mystery card, and that gets much better reactions
