Now I know what you Brits mean when you say Bloody Hell or "bloody" anything else for that matter. The use of the adjective "bloody' is uniquely British. And it played with me tonight.
After spending three hours in an emergency room for an uncontrollable hemorrhaging nosebleed, I'm now in the comforts of my home, understanding the meaning of bloody hell. I've had three serious nosebleeds in the last week and they've been bloody hell. Tonight's took me to the hospital. They found the bloody vessel and cauterized it. Anyone else plagued with this?

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

I had that problem when I was very young- about five years old I think. Seemed like they stuffed several yards of gauze up my nose. I continued to have frequent nosebleeds through my teen years but then they just stopped. Can't remember the last time I had one.

Thanks Mary. I'm better, and I guess I didn't lose enough blood to be light headed. In fact the emergency room doctor told me that while it seems real bad, it really takes a lot to bleed out from a nosebleed. Mild comfort there. Still, I'm avoiding going to the bloody details of clots and other things that occur during one of these gushers. Light headedness wasn't one of them, but panic was.
Bob, I've been plagued with them my entire life. I've had the same side cauterized about twenty years ago. But the last three in the last week are the worst I've ever had, and tonight's a real gusher. Winter and dry air seems to support them. I hope you never have one of these and pray that you continue to avoid them.

I have had a nose bleed or two but not so bad as to go to hospital with. Some race horses are prone to nose bleeds and they call it breaking a blood vessel in the form book.

I've had a couple random nosebleeds since moving back to the Midwest (artificial heat in the winter tends to dry the air in the house). Those I had while living in the south were usually associated with infection or stupidity. I think it's drier outside this winter, too. We had some snow the other day and it has not been above freezing, yet the snow is disappearing. It's not melting as much as it's evaporating. What's your home situation Bob1Dog? Not saying your nosebleeds aren't caused by something else, but you might want to check the humidity.

I guess they just went away, haven't had one in many years. Hang in there Bob. Tom

@ Michael, our home is definitely dry in the winter time, and I've had nosebleeds before, usually in the winter. I usually just put up with them. But never had one land me in the hospital before. I probably should consider some humidification system, except I've had system humidifiers in two homes before and they never worked properly.
Besides, I have sleep apnea and wear one of those C-Pap masks at night which pumps humidity through my nose. I've probably shared too much already. @ tommy, interesting about the horses. Anyway thanks all for your comments. So far so good today. Though the doc said cauterization can sometimes be only temporary for a difficult problem. There are other measures I won't go into here and hope to avoid.
