Hi all,
I am a magician and a student researcher who's working on a Masters thesis on street performers in Chicago. I've had some experience busking in Memphis and Philadelphia (albeit, I was only able to perform in Philly for a short time), and I'm now seeking out street performers of all ilk in Chicago. Thus far, I've found about five or six performers (all of different trades - musicians, balloon artists, and living statues), but I have yet to run into a magician. Granted, it's a bit cold at the moment, and experience has taught me that my fingers don't work quite as well in this kind of weather... So I've decided to turn to the internet (and thus, the Magic Café) in search of local street performers. What is my thesis about? As an anthropologist and a magician, I'm interested in street performers who work in Chicago. I'm not quite sure yet how I am approaching this project in terms of a research question (which is in the process of being developed). I will be observing street shows and interviewing the performers. I will, of course, also participate and try my hand out at street performing here in Chicago. At the same time, I've found a team from my university who will also be filming some of the performances and some of the interviews (with your permission). They will be working on creating a documentary film on street performers, while I work on my own research project. If anyone IS or KNOWS OF any street performers (magicians or otherwise) who work regularly here in Chicago, please send me a message here. I would love for a chance to get an interview and to watch you perform. If you're not working over the winter, we could still get an interview in. And since I've only been in Chicago for a couple of months, I haven't quite gotten the hang of what the magic community here is like. Any information on that front would be helpful as well. Thank you all.

I would first look at all the documentaries that have already been made to get a feel of what to expect.

Thank you to both of you. Of course, I'll do my best to get some background research done in the midst of this project. And thank you, Mike, for that contact. I appreciate any help I can get.
