In the product detail by the Examinable category it has N/A. Wonder if this means no gimmicks used and the deck is examinable or not??

I'm curious about this . . .
I'm with RNK that it uses a gimmicked deck. If it didn't, then the advertisement would make a point about that. But I may be wrong. cheers, Greg Rostami |

How amazed will they be? Technically they are ony sorting 26 cards by "magic" since the other 26 are face up. Seems half as impressive.
Or am I missing something? |

It just comes down to presentation -- I was sort of like you in that I liked the full deck sorts better but now I understand the reasoning behind partial deck sorts. First, it shortens the effect, because you don't have to sort the whole deck, which some spectators may find tedious. Second, you can display the remainder of the deck and show that they were actually shuffled and mixed up -- it's a nice subtle convincer. For an example of a really good partial deck sort, check out L&L's World's Greatest Magic OOTW DVD. There, you can find David Regal's OOTW that he calls Out of the Borough(sp?). Max Maven has a partial deck sort on there as well. Regal and Maven give much better explanations as to why a partial deck sort can be as strong as a full deck sort -- I'm just paraphrasing the gist of what I recall from the DVD (it's been a while). |

It's still 52 card split so it isn't any faster And you can't show a nice deck because the whole deck is still used. This is more like doing an OOTW but telling them what half of the cards are. Just seems to dewindle the effect slightly. However this is just based on what is written in the a copy! So I could be completely wrong! |

It does say in the ad
"Note: These are presently being posted to us from the manufacturer and will be with us on or before December 20th" Based on that I would say it uses a gimmick deck. |

This sounds great. However, there are many versions of OOTW that are hands off. Heck, the original is pretty much hands off (spec does the dealing). Don't see the hands off aspect as being anything particularly unique.

Hi gentlemen, I'm pleased to say that this is now in stock and ready to ship. I did some filming and hope to have a trailer up soon. This does in deed use a gimmicked deck but as far as being examinable its a strange one to answer. Technically speaking the answer is no however from the moment they are handed the deck you never take it back. They shuffle and handle every card and since they do the revelation they see both sides of every card in the deck they are left with nothing to question.
This does involve mixing half the deck face up and half the deck face down and I can understand some reservations about doing this but I guess it is all down to your favored approach and reasoning. I do believe that this does speed up the dealing process slightly since half of the deck is a given and there for there is no thinking involved which may slow the process down. As for the reasoning I personally take a leaf from Andrew Gerrards book and suggest that the subconscious is able to take a mental snap shot and remember the condition of the deck since it is broken into smaller segments much in the same way you can remember long strings of numbers by breaking them down into smaller groups. I agree that most OOTW effects are considered hands off and so if your looking at what new this brings to the plate I suppose its the following: The deck can be shuffled by the spectator in any way, they can even throw them all in the air kick them about as they have a dance and then gather and square and then deal all without the magician/mentalist ever needing to touch the deck. If that sounds like fun to you then go for it ha ha I like this a lot but I'm biased as I'm a good friend of Dave Cushing. Any questions just fire them away! Anyway since this is now shipping I'm sure the comments good or bad will be here soon Best Wishes Michael

Took the leap of faith and ordered. Hopefully the shipping down under isn't too slow being Xmas. Paid just under 10 quid for postage so hope it's not snail mail. One thing forgot to ask, what design are the cards, I requested red backs??? and Michael, I will be having them kicked around, sort of bars I hang out in.

Saw this today when Michael demonstated it for me. it didn,t fool me as I am 54 in a couple of months and have been into magic since I was 12 yrs old. however it is a very good worthwhile addition to the ootw plot. Michael only releases good stuff through magicbox.if it wasn,t good he would not put magicboxs name to it. personally I think when it,s been out a couple of weeksweeks people will love it. mike donoghue

So the shuffling does not add to the effect. It's benefit is that a shuffled deck may be used, I.e. it is impromtu. In Mad World the deck is shuffled by the spectator who then keeps the deck for the rest of the effect. Including the revelation. David |
