So here's my problem... What constitues exposure?
There was a recent thread started by someone with less than 10 posts, asking about resources to a specific effect. Others posted links to commercially available products and the poster's mystery was solved. In public. Hooray. So why is it considered acceptable to reveal some methodology on here and Not others. 'How does derren do his coin in hand routine' is apparently acceptable. 'How does derren know What letter of the alphabet someone's written down' is apparently Not acceptable. Maybe it's down the the cost of the kit used. Maybe it's down to the mood of the mods. Who knows. I'm Just a little concerned and confused that when I flag a post as revealing and mention it, my post is deleted and the topic stays. Doesn't even get put to inner. Please could someone better than myself clarify for me What the rules are in here. WNail x

I think it depends on who asks the question - if its a noob it gets deleted, if its someone with a few thousand posts it stays.

If it's a noob it doesn't get deleted. That was my initial concern...
No offence to new posters at all, but a good 50 count at least gives us an idea of What a person't like.

Personally I think anything that discusses methodology should be downstairs. Many say the same about mentioning commercial products but I am not so sure about that one considering they are sold on fully googleable web sites and advertised and reviewed in Latest and Greatest and Mentally speaking. I guess like most things though context is king.

I think the anger about exposure relates proportionally to the value of the effect.
Also, I think, it's related to the performance time one puts in. Workers get rightly more annoyed than hobbiests because it's the bread and butter being taken away from them or exposed for public dissection. I'm on the verge of making this more of a living and am really starting to link in to the arguments made by messers dunfield and cassidy on other threads. We live in a society of quick fixes and instant gratification. Let's Not pander to the way society tells us the World is supposed to be and try and keep an element of wonder and mystery behind What we do.

While the rules of what constitutes exposure here can be confusing, it does seem to be okay to expose your own method for doing an effect.

I left because my threads kept being deleted for no reason.
Then I came back. Now What happened to Alexandre happens to me. I feel like I should leave again but now feel like I should try and do something in my own small way to protect the art. Hmmm. That sounds very pompous and I don't mean it too, I suppose Maybe I mean it annoys me when people are given everything Thanks to a quick search. Give a man a fish and all that...

I know it's been a little bit since posted, however, I feel like anything that reveals a method that isn't your own is piracy/copyright infringment since it isn't yours to give away. Pointing someone in the right direction I don't think is that, because of the fact that even if great performers kept everything to themselves or even to the small community the art would never transform or grow.
