I am guessing that I probably clipped my dove's wings about 4 months ago, and I am wondering why they haven't grown back yet! This was my first time ever clipping them, and I don't think I "cut too far" or anything, none of the doves showed any sign of pain when I clipped them. On a few wings, I accidentally cut a sliver of the wing (creating a small "V" gap on a feather), and it is still there.
I guess I never really asked ahead of time: How long does it take for the doves wings to grow back? I am also wondering how often they loose their old feathers for the new ones to take place.
I am sure all you dove guys know this, so any advice is appreciated!

They will not grow back as is. First the old ones will drop and leave a gap. The new one will fill in then. Look at the wings on my dove in the photo. It will take about a year to get back to that.

The good news is that about February, most doves will go through a heavy molt anyway.

Enjoy! It is a great time to really get to know them.

There are other ways to ensure dove don't just "Take off" Or if they do they will fly back to a Certain place of your choice.
One of the best ways is to use food as your rod.
Only feed them once a day and after their daily "Work out" or show and from the same place. This could be the perch you want them to fly to after production.
If you do this constantly they will get the message and do exactly what you want them to do.
I was a Dove Worker for over 20 yrs and the High Lights of my show was to produce a dove, Release it into the air and let the audience watch as they circle and land one after the other on their spots.
Cheers
