Here's one for you guy's.

On T.V. last night there was a program about the Empire Theatre in Glasgow, Scotland.

It is documented that whilst Houdini was performing there, he got locked, by accident, in the toilet, and had to get released out of it !

I had heard about this years ago, but didn't know where it had taken place until last night.

Poor bloke !

Thanks John for sharing this.

On the program last night about the Glasgow Empire Theatre, the story was told by a female dancer who said she witnessed the incident.
Fun to hear that the same sort of thing happened all over ! LOL !
Very interesting thought. Thanks.

Bobby.

I love the (unintended) irony of the columnist. He defends Houdini from unfounded legend by attacking second- and third-hand accounts of Vernon because he was a "Houdini hater". Too good.

The Houdini story is funny, and it very likely was a bit of folklore--who could resist a Houdini trapped in.... story. But the cautionary tale goes both ways. Be skeptical of the recollected Vernon stories too.

When I passed my audition at the Magic Castle, I was told (by Mark Wilson) that I wouldn't get my lapel pin that night because the manager had locked them in a cabinet and gone home.

I said to Mark, "We have a building full of magicians, and we don't have ONE GUY who can get into a locked cabinet?"

His reply: "You go me: we're all frauds!"

Off topic, but you reminded me of a few lines in Argo:

Jack O'Donnell: Find White House Chief off Staff!
Malinov: How would I find him?
Jack O'Donnell: We're a ****ing spy agency! Find him!
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.
