Sounds interesting. A mentalism convention in Europe.
Nice lineup so far. http://www.paralabs.org/mindsummit/ |

The Website is located on the ParaLabs Server, but is is not a ParaLabs Event. The Mind Summit is directed by Danny Archer in cooperation with ParaLabs. Hope to see some of you over there |

It is exciting to see more mentalism conventions. Is it just me or does there seem to be real hesitancy by the organizers of such events to bring in much new blood. For example, there is a new mentalism convention in New Jersey in March and now another in June in Germany and Mr. Osterlind is headlining both. No disrespect meant, I know he is great, but are there that few "greats" in mentalism? Where are the new innovators? Are there any?

The only "mentalism" convention I have to in over 30 years was Mind Vention over 2 years ago. I am going back there this year because I am being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The East Coast Mind Jam is a renewal of a convention that was cancelled when Tony Spina got sick a few years ago. He is an old friend and the convention is meant to honor him with people he has known over the years. I was asked to appear in Germany because I have not been to any mentalism conventions in Europe and the organizers thought it might be a nice draw. But Peter Turner, one of the best of the newer breed of mentalists will also be both in Germany and Las Vegas, along with a host of other younger mentalists who all bring their own unique styles. You might want to rethink your assessment. Richard |

I think this should be interesting to see how having this event will impact attendance at upcoming Mindventions. I'm already getting the feeling that many outside the U.S. may not be coming to Vegas if this becomes a regular event as they can stay closer to home. It shall be interesting.

If, in fact, they are only coming in for MindVention. But there is also Las Vegas, with all its shows and other events that also draws in so many people. I don't think that will ever change.

For the record, most of the "new" mentalists credit learning from Richard Osterlind and other patriarchs of mentalism.
I think one should be overjoyed professionals with decades of practicle experience, like Richard Osterlind, are willing to teach convention attendees. Experience can't be created by theory. Most working pros find it financially crippling to attend and lecture at mental or magic conventions. Consider yourself privileged. |

I think both conventions will be similar to a degree (the same way that magic conventions are similar to a degree), but they will both have their own unique identity.

Thank you so much Docc, for your very kind words!
And I totally agree with Danny. Every country and its performers bring a unique approach to the art of mentalism. I can't wait to see my friend Jan Forster again along with all the rest and, man, I am drooling just thinking about what the dealer's room will be like in Cologne! |

Docc is right. Richard is right. Right On!
