I vote for some rubber band stuff. Hot Shot w/rubber bands - Ben Salinas and/or Dan Harlan - Rubber Band Magic vol 1, 2, 3. NOTHING packs smaller and plays bigger than some rubber band effects to add to your act. Plus, easy to learn, easy to perform and a nice time killer when you routine a few together. It is also a nice break from just "card and coin stuff"

"I'm a magic collector, then a student of magic, and then a magician." that is a great approach! That means you will allow yourself to get really all the fun stuff.

Why not start viewing knowledge as something to collect. Read/watch everything you can and you'll have a greater "collection" than others!

I learned this effect from Joshua Jay's Magic: The Complete Course.

Chilren's hospital
"Elderly home" (nursing facility or senior living?) Stage Street All these have very different requirements. You can use the same basic trick, but you need different presentations. Do you know what the requirements are for the audience that will see a certain routine? Knowing "how to use" your props and knowing how to entertain the people in front of you are very different items. Put your money into studying the art of being entertaining, or you risk being just another boring guy with tricks. Donate some money to the local high school drama club and then perform for their advanced drama class to get some honest feedback. Do you know how to manipulate your props without disconnecting from the audience? These guys will tell you! Ed |

Nothing yet-- Had a few delays. Tannens didn't accept Paypal directly. I needed to get a credit card. I'm going to be buying assorted silks, Hopping Halves, Scotch and Soda, Ken Weber's Maximum entertainment, Purse Frame, Loops, Linking Rings DVD, quite a few of Mr. Lorayne's books, a smaller close up pad. (Mine's 24 by 17 or something like that). A couple of bricks of Tally-ho's, and a few more things.. Thumb tip replacement-- My grandfather stole my favorite thumb tip. I enjoy the vernet hard/"classic".. My grandfather took the classic and I'm stuck with my Vernet Soft. I hate the friction.

Harry Lorayne books. "The Magic Book" is a great start, Doc Eason has said this was very important to him when he first started out.
Bill Tarr's "Now You See it" series Tarbell Course of Magic Ken Weber's "Maximum Entertainment" Jeff McBride's "Show Doctor" You have enough props, learn to be a "performer/entertainer". |

I think a wallet would also be good! You can perform some tricks that really get the spectator excited. Try looking around: Real Man's wallet by Steve Draun, Speedloader Plus by Tony Miller. You'll find something that suits you.

I would suggest you look into some of the lectures and see how some real masters entertain with the most basic props. penguin magic has some good lectures.
My favorite are: David Williamson Greg Wilson Jay Sankey I would also suggest: The Code A really good DVD on moves like the pass, top change, and double lift. I didn't like Aaron Fisher (rambles on too much). I really like Jay Sankey's Extremely Ambitious. The classic pass is difficult, but a turnover pass can be very easy. I would suggest you think about where you be performing and for whom and come up with a list of your top three effects to do in each. KJ |

I bet you are overwhelmed lol. Earlier in the thread someone mentioned to decide what you are good at and build from there. I think that is good advice.
A deck of cards, a thumb tip and silk, scotch and soda and some instruction books or dvds will be more than enough to keep you occupied, then you can branch out as you're comfortable. Just my opinion

Hi,
I don't have so many advises to give about books to read and DVDs to watch since I'm already looking for some, but I can tell you about card brands. You said you had a little of everything; have you tried Phoenix cards yet? I think that it's a good thing to have different brands, but you have to stick to one in perf, otherwise laymen will think you introduce a strange deck, in comparison to the one they are used to seeing, that means yours at this time. So if you haven't try it out yet, do give them a chance, they really are worth it. Look as the topic about card brands in the Workers section, it will give you some answers. As Poof Daddy said (I believe), Christian Card-Shark, the creator of Phoenix cards is on the forum and answers PMs within minutes most of time; since when have you seen any representant from Bicycle, Bee or Tally Ho on the forum? Here's one answer. |

Also if I got sponges some rope a deck of cards and a chop cup I could easily put togther a 45 minute set while using very little pocket space.
its cool if you want to collect as well one thing I would suggest that I have a lot of fun with that kids just go crazy for is Dlight, also I have a lot of fun with superman coin bend as well. so if you don't have those 2 I suggest you look for them. |
