You have one chance to typically do so and a very brief amount of time. Anytime you are offering your feature and benefits you are essentially saying without saying that others do not offer such or not in the same way you do with the same results. In order to do this you must offer a point of comparison. In describing what's unique about you, you are selling you, not discrediting or trash or down-talking anyone else. It is business, it is sales. In the process of doing this you are educating. The best way to educate is by examples and comparisons. This is what people understand and is second nature. |

I do prefer "blunt" over "rude" though, but "tomAYto / tomAWto" I suppose. You obviously should ignore all of my suggestions. What you're doing is working much better at your level. (No insult intended. I don't mean low-level, I meant YOUR level.) I will give you just one thought though: Figure out what your product is and you'll make more money, have happier clients, and won't have to offer them a 10% discount on your website BEFORE they even ask for one. I hope that wasn't taken as rude. By the way. I do have a website but don't disclose it here. (That way I can be as rude as I want and future customers can't see that it's me.) And when I did have it in my profile, I saw where two highly thought of Café members lifted it word-for-word and even image-for-image. I won't name them since they are STILL well thought of here. I'll just go away now, tend to my business and keep my opinions to myself. BYEzinga! |

Bazinga, I'm glad you saw my videos. Did you hear that noise? It's called APPLAUSE (just in case you never get the chance to familiarize yourself with it)!

Which is why I am not gonna waste time with price buyers when I feel the rates are hardly worth mentioning (although, believe it or not, my birthday rates are higher than almost every magician in the area). (BTW, birthdays are the only thing I post rates for. The only exception is once a year, before the Fairs & Festivals conventions, I offer up a special to that market. I figure if I can book up before January I won't have to go to the booking conventions and it's worth the discount to me.) |

With me it depends on the time of season. The slow winter season I would negotiate less minutes using close up props. It takes away a lot of time. The busy seasons I would build a relationship directing her towards a cheap clown.
When I am constantly getting begged during the busy season I tell them I will give them $20 for every show they can find me. |

If I get a client and they don't have my fee in their budget - say that they can only spend $150.00 and I have the night open. Ill just take the show and use the money to buy a toy that I want. Some DVDs books etc. I will find something to spend the money on.
I happen to be a performing magician and hypnotist and I take every show I get - just about. I don't suggest so-and-so who is in college and has the chops technically - but isn't a very good entertainer and doesn't connect with the audience. In my opinion not connecting with the audience or not being a very good entertainer is not having the chops. And in my opinion that is the "problem" with magic. I am sorry if that might offend some on this board. But if a performer doesn't have the chops to entertain - or if they do not have the chops technically in my opinion then many of them should go back and learn the craft before they charge money - hard earned cash - for a service. I also do not sell a product to clients - I sell a service. I also don't see the need to qualify my price. In my opinion to qualify my price would make me an "EGO" magician. That would say I am a magician and a pro and my price is this - and if you can't afford my price - here is so-and-so magician who is in collage. But I charge THIS price because I am the GREAT so and so. If a client calls I work with THEIR budget. Because they buy my service or they don't. If they want to buy I am sure I can come up with a show that can fit their needs. I also don't feel that I am in competition with other magicians or hypnotists at all. If they book someone else - so what. Whoever they book if it is not me is really their problem. I don’t run anyone down to get a booking - In my opinion running down anyone (other magicians) to a client is simply not done and in my opinion is not a good business practice. Clients book me based on my years in the business - my experience and my technical ability and my user friendly ability to set my ego aside and work with them. Cheers!
