So instead of buying Hopping Half at Tannens like I normally would, I decided I might try to get it for cheaper on Ebay. Is that a mistake in your guy's opinion?
I figure coins can't be too badly beat up. Only thing is.. I see shaved down version, expanded version, and so on.. Which one is best and why? What should I look for when buying? Thanks! |

That's why you pay more to buy the coins at a brick and mortar magic store; you get to ask those questions from someone who works with the coins every day and who can actually show you the answers and let you see the differences for yourself. There's cheap and then there's cheap.

Buy a decent set from a reputable online shop; even if you need to save for a little longer. In the long run you'll be happier than if you had settled.
I like my Johnson set.

Purchase magic props on eBay at your own risk. You may pay a few $ more at Tannens, but you will get what you pay for. You will also have someone that can show you the routine and how to use the props. Always buy from brick and mortar when you can, especially as a beginner.

I like my Johnson set as well. It's less "noisy" than the shaved one I bought earlier.

This is not something I would by on eBay.

Ebay's motto must be "caveat emptor" let the buyer beware.
There are so many faked items there, and there is no way of telling what you're really buying (OK blurry photos are a dead giveaway) If you see a bargain that looks too good to be true, then it probably is. So saying, I have bought coins of Ebay, and only received 1 bad one (I've been lucky) Steve |

Brick and mortar! How well I remember my first one (THE MYSTERY MART, I737 N. Jackson, Milwaukee)in November, 1945.) Leonard Patyk, manager.
I bought CLIPPO ($1.00) a bundle of spring flower (about $3.00) and, I think, SIX CARD REPEAT (the "mechanical version--1.00). I haven't been in Tannen'a since 1964!

I was looking on eBay out of curiosity and didn't see any great deals. The Johnson and Roy Kueppers sets were not much less than buying directly form them. But when I was looking for the Johnson Hopping Halves on their website they didn't have anything listed.

I've bought expensive ones and cheap ones (not just hopping halves, but numerous coin gaffs). It's always the same story; you get what you pay for.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |
