Great find Pakar! Thanks for sharing.
On a side note, is it me or did it look like he was wearing some sort of brace under his shirt? I thought he was going to get up and do the Laser Illusion.....lol. |

There were some very interesting things about his business that David Copperfield never told before. Oliver. |

Allaboutmagic, he actually wears a "muscle suit" under his clothes, just because he is so lanky and skinny. Little fun fact trivia lol

Great interview! I've watched several interviews with David Copperfield and I've noticed something very interesting. He almost never acknowledges or gives credit to other magicians for any part of his success. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not. Just an observation.

Kent, Copperfield pays dearly for some of the illusions he uses (lump sums, mind you). I'm sure that's thanks enough!
In all seriousness though, I didn't really see them ask David a direct question that would bring that up. When people think of who made them successful, they tend to think "Mom, Dad, Grandpa" more than the heroes they idolized. Just one man's opinion. |

From what I read, all the help by others was after he started the momentum in the magic world of performance. As he simply answered an ad for Magician Wanted and he won and got the stage show in Chicago. From there he went to New York. Don't know if anyone made those arrangements, but there were some magic backer's in New York, and they may have seen his potential. Just don't know, because these people do not want there names out there.
As some of his very young pictures and videos that have been shown and published, he was like most kids that got interested in the magic. The only difference, he actually worked hard on learning his tricks. There was a video of him performing like at age 12 the Dancing Cane and it was an excellent performance. I think David Copperfield's success was just one of those things where all the stars aligned perfectly for him. He was the right age, he was ready, he was tall and handsome, he took action by answering the ad, he followed through. Then after his long run in the magic show, he sought other avenues to keep going. That is the part that was never told anywhere to my knowledge. Just my point of view from the little I have read about David Copperfield. |

Thanks for the video link!
After watching the video, I could not help but realize just how much David Copperfield had an influence on my magic as a performer and, most importantly, the magic I create. His philosophy and dedication is something that was fused into my brain long before I took building magic seriously as I never missed a single TV special. I literally could not wait for the next year to pass to see what innovations he and his team brought to magic! In the end, we share many common traits. Most importantly, to achieve excellence at all costs which are far too many too list. I know he would never see this but I would like to publicly thank and acknowledge my gratitude to the man who made me strive for excellence and paved a path for me to discover my dreams as a creator of magic...David Copperfield. Thanks for posting this video link.
I too have nothing but the utmost respect for David and his team. I wish there was still a yearly special. Understood how other projects, like Musha Cay, could take his time and passions in lieu of a yearly special. The most noteworthy thing for me: he mentioned that several stories in the history of magic and illusion have not been shared with a wider audience. I couldn't agree more. There are *huge* untapped resources for feature films, for example that would be just wonderful if produced at the right level. Agreed? I will definitely stay tuned. |

Nice video. It's great to see someone who has really "made it" like Copperfield come across as so human, genuine and thoughtful. Maybe that's part of the natural charisma that has helped make him such a success and able to connect with others.
I especially liked his insight about bosses, when he was young. While others acted clever by making fun of their bosses, he asked himself, "why is (s)he the boss, and what can I learn from this person?" Now there's a piece of advice you can easily apply to pretty much any employment situation, in any career field.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.
