The UK has similar knife laws to Ireland. You can only carry a folding knife if the blade is 2" or less, and it cannot be locking. There has been an impact over the years, in terms of knife crime, but in domestic violence, knives are predictably common. Teenaged gang members tend to pinch a knife from the kitchen according to police officers I've spoken to. But the penalty for being caught carrying one, which is fairly severe, does seem to have worked to a degree as a deterrent.
