I've been fortunate to see Tamariz at conventions and have a question regarding a performance he does---this is not done as part of his show. At MagiCon a couple years back, he sat at a table in the large lobby area.
After a huge group gathered around, he chose different people and had them name a card. He then proceeded to locate it in a variety of reveals.---sometimes it was on top of the deck---others he would count down a number picked or spell their name. Etc

This continued on for 10-15 minutes or more. He continued to amaze and entertain this audience of fellow magicians. You could hearthe screams of "no way".

My question is --is this a routine in Mnemonica or our the basics taught in the book?

Sounds like Mnemonocosis, the basics of which are in the book Mnemonica.

Is Tamariz the only magician that does this type of routine?

Never seen anyone else---must be very difficult!

In his book "Tangled Web", Eric Mead has a whole section devoted to 'jazzing'. It might give you additional ideas.

The term "jazzin'" comes from a chapter in Workers 5 (1996) that is devoted to strategies for this type of effect.

Michael,

Good to hear from you---I went and dug up my "Workers #5"---some really great ideas in there that will be very useful.

I also couldn't stop laughing, reading your story about getting stuck in the "MONCTON". Airport. That was a hoot!

David Blaine jazzes on Mnemonica, I believe.

But more slowly. Smile

But I am the opposite of a stage magician.
He gives you illusion that has the appearance of truth.
I give you truth in the pleasant disguise of illusion."
