Ever show up at a place a day early.
I did. Back in my Mime over Matter Days. I had an old fashion pen and paper planner. Saturday and Sunday were combined. I showed up at a conference a day early in full mime make up...down to my capezio dance shoes. The consumer saw me and asked why I was there a day early. I quickly made up something (aka lied) and said I had just come from a gig and was just checking out the facility. Be safe, well and better organized than this guy. ....and you? Harris

Yeah, that happened to me last year. I had a brain fart and put the event down a week early. When I showed up the wrong people were at the shelter and I kept calling them - I thought they changed the event and forgot to tell me. That was embarassing. But better early than late and miss the gig.

I once went to a birthday party a week early....I'd misread the date. It was in a big park by a lake where lots of people have their kids parties. Once I realized my idiotic mistake, I didn't feel like getting right back into my car after the 90 minute drive here, so I just sat on a bench to relax.....but then a group of teens came by, saw my standing balloon-pump, and one of the girls asked for...actually, make that DEMANDED a girrafe. So I made one, it attracted others, soon there was a line, I was getting tipped by parents, and then a guy came to talk to me, and when he realized I couldn't speak Spanish, he went & got someone else from the party who did, and it was explained that they wanted me to do balloons at that party they had going on right then and the guy produced $100 cash. I did the party, and a lady (the guy's wife I'm guessing) gave me a $50 tip. So it worked out.
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

I showed up a week late once. Actually, I didn't show up. The booker said next Tuesday, which I took to mean the Tuesday of the following week, not tomorrow.
Tuesday came, and at 4.30pm I got a call demanding to know was I on my way. Trouble was, I was near the summit of a mountain two hours drive away, thinking I had the day off. In a panic I turned back down, but as I did a heavy fog descended. I was not looking where I was going, as I was furiously working the phone to get a magician to the party. I walked straight into a bog hole, and ended up submerged to my waist in dirty bog water. The only good news was I managed to get a magician for the party as I floundered around in the bog hole.

Dragged three loads of stuff up 30 steps into a meeting hall and plugged in the sound system before someone came over to see what I was doing. I discovered I was a week early and this was not my group.
I told them that I just wanted to make sure everything fit through the door because the door sizes were different where I came from AND I also needed to see if my new electrical converter actually fit in the plug..... because.... I just moved here from England and the electricity is different here, Don't you know. All said, with a bad accent that made me sound like I was on a fox hunt. I kept giving them the two thumbs up as I dragged everything down the steps saying "Right-i-O, Cheers and Jolly Good" - - - - - Another time I went to a hotel one day early. No one was around so I found the room. The tables were set-up and the chairs all facing the wrong way. I moved all the tables and 135 chairs. No one came so I went to the lobby to find it was ME who was the idiot. So............... I moved all the chairs and tables back again. No one ever knew I was there. I was invisible. - - - The next day I got a call from the contact asking if I needed direction to the room "No" I said........... ............. ............. ............ "I've been there before" - - - - I showed-up on the Fall Daylights savings time day. Needless to say the traffic was light so I was there an extra hour early... I was actually two and a half hours early. So I told the family - who was running around the house in bath towels and wet hair - I was always this early... better early then to be late. - - - - - - Once. I was told that the school had a very strict policy about parking in the lot and that I would be towed away if I was there while the busses were in the lot - no matter where I parked. Mind you, this wasn't the city's policy but the principals ( Im sure that Dick and I could tell a thousand and one stories about wacky principals and their secretary side kicks) So the only way I could time-out - - OH YEAH. as soon as the last bus left they were going to lock the gate and all the doors on the building too. So I couldn't wait-out the busses either - - The only way I could get in there for a 7:00 family night show and be set up on time was to get in and out of the parking lot by 1:50. That's what I did. I unloaded at 12;15 and sat on the stage five hours. At 6:25 someone opened-up the gates and the building. The PTA came in the auditorium and this is what I heard "I hope the magician is on his way because I haven't seen him" POOF, I stuck my head out the curtain and scared them.

I don't think they even noticed!

I showed up a month early.
February and March always have the same calendar days. I was scheduled (for example) on Saturday the 15th, and I showed up the 15th of Feb when the event was the 15th of March. No big deal, since the event was only minutes from my house. |

Tom hughes, you lost me on that one. Except during leap year all the days in February are the same as those in March.
