Ok so I need some help. I recently bought part of a magic collection and in it was what we called the box of mystery. When I was looking at what was for sale this box looked like paperwork, but no real organization and instead of filtering through it, I just had it added to the package. The reality is it had some really cool stuff in it. However the coolness set aside and the reality I have been hoarding magic for years and with help from my wife I cannot keep everything. The items I am listing below I know little to nothing about. Some I know might have a great value the others no clue. What I am wondering is who is an “expert” (term loosely applied here) that can give some insight. The reality is these items do not fit what I normally collect and will end up on the market. The question is on some am I better off to find an auction house, or private sale? I have photos of everything and can email if you want more information that I list below:
Item #1 This is a prospectus for the future books by Will Goldston. This is from 1911 and just over 30 pages long and titled Will Goldston’s Golden Key to Magical Success. It is a paperback at the true sense as being a pamphlet it is not a thicker paperback cover but more a colored piece of paper. The cover is worn and tattered. I have had people explain to me what it is, however value wise no one has a clue. Seems to be most people have heard of the prospectus but few have seen it. Online no one is listing on or showing one, other than some that have scans from one. I have been told this is a really rare treasure? Item #2 6 “the Magnet” newspapers. It says it is the world’s only magic newspaper in the world – All dated around January 1954 Item #3 1 copy of Hughes News. Vol 2 No.4 from September 1955 featuring Billy McComb in the headline article. Item #4 Various papers “The Phoenix”, “the Bat”, “The Dragon”, and “The Jinx” Item #5 1911 copy of The American Magician. This is all paper and only about 4-6 pages long. Published by Presto Company of New York. It is tattered but someone thought highly of it as it ended up in a frame. As I said I know little to nothing about most of these items other than what I have learned reading them. It seems online information for most of it is limited as well. If you could help with History, and value it would be appreciated. History is most important.. I might frame and keep some. Click here to view attached image. |
