Jamie; the first volume contains a lot of material that I use, so I'd recommend you start with that. But I suspect you will end up with the whole set.

Harry Lorayne's Magic Square was written up in The Magic Book and elsewhere, and it is excellent. Standing ovation excellent. With the right presentation of course.
For Apocalypse disciples like myself, check out Terry LaGerould's "No Memory" version. Vol.2 No.5 May, 1979. It's brilliant. Jamie, if you want performable, workable, commercial, magic that you will use, purchase Apocalypse as soon as you can. |

Jamie: Just in case...there are no more Vols. 1 and 3 of APOCALYPSE left, but I do have a couple of Vols. 2 and 4 - may still have one of each if you move fast. Anyone interested, go to my personal email address (first one listed under this post) with your questions. I may have answers! HL.

I sold my set a few years ago and regretted it and then had to buy two back from eBay for a little more that they were orignally but glad I got my set back. I had to watch eBay for many months to get the two out of print ones back. What you use is all personal preference, however the knowledge gained from the volumes is invaluable. I also love all the essays. So much material it is overwhelming. I still think all of these needs to be reprinted. Or maybe not since most today are too lazy to read books especially books that big, so maybe it is better for those of us who have appreciated them for so long.
The great trouble with magicians is the fact that they believe when they have bought a certain trick or piece of apparatus, and know the method or procedure, that they are full-fledged mystifiers. -- Harry Houdini

Apocalypse is at the top of my list. I have very fond memories of issues arriving in my letterbox and reading Harry's
Out To Lunch or Ellipses first. My personal favourite routine in Apocalypse is on page 2755 I perform it at every gig. No set-up, any deck. Amongst many other favourites I've performed for years are Harry's Spel(l)egant Walt Maddison's The Sting Larry Becker's Duck Too Doug Edward's Packs A Wallop. Trevor Lewis' Monte Plus Darwin Ortiz's Modern Jazz Aces Just to name a few. |

Packs A Wallop is awesome! And, yes, Your Mystery Card to Pocket is fantastic. Not difficult, very strong, anytime miracle.

You're helping to make it all worthwhile, guys. Thanks. I do need that bit of ego stroking every so often. So, thanks for these wonderful posts (which are, of course, making ralphgironda sick!). HL.

When I worked at Magic Inc I ALWAYS would recommend Apocalypse as a necessary part of any library. It not only contained "some gems" as do most books but it consists of MOSTLY GEMS! Not an easy accomplishment.

It took me a little while to acquire all 4 Apocalypse volumes since I just "found" them a few years back, but I love perusing them and ALWAYS find something new to me. And, I really love Harry's added personal columns, too. They are one the best investments I made and also a set I'd never part with. There's plenty of great stuff throughout. Apocalypse is fantastic! Searching the internet is futile for finding a complete set of Apocalypse books. Volumes 2 and 4 are still around, but volumes 1 and 3 are impossible to find. Found a volume 3 on ebay but it was pretty beat up.

Thank you Mr. Lorayne. I bought them all as they came out, and I'm really not that much of a card man. I agree with Magicfish. I go through all of my books on a reagular basis, and always seem to find something to work on.

I didn't mean for people to think I hate Apocalypse or Harry.
I respect Harry and his work. |
