On another forum topic, I had mentioned the subject of using a business card fire wallet device in a building, and the adverse reaction I had gotten from a certain lady, when another user responded back with a detailed list of all the legalities that prohibit us from using fire just about anywhere.
Although I followed his thoughts, it occured to me that with all that in mind, we all had better put all of our fire effects away and never use them anywhere for the possibilities of getting sued or thrown in jail, etc., etc., I don't know about you guys, but although I don't relish the thought of going to jail, in my heart I'm not quite ready to just cowtow and put it all away yet. I love fire effects, and always will. Take them away, and you have just taken away an essential part of being a magician. Think about this: You can't perform in public buildings because of fire codes and the possibility of setting off sprinklers, and if you do it outdoors, a breeze might blow the flames at you or your spectators. Let me see now, uhhh, outdoors,...indoors. That just about covers it all, doesn't it? What do you think guys? Are you going to give up your pyro aspirations? This is troubling me deeply, and I sure would like to know what you think.

It is dangerous I agree because different buildings have different rules -- my only advice would be to call the management office and ask them if you know you will be in a certain building and performing

Well, I see what you mean, but I'm realy thinking along the lines of spur of the moment effects, nothing elaborate, just little things like pulling out you Kapps wallet when you pay for something, or the flaming business card wallet, etc.,...

I wouldn't stop doing them if people don't like it too bad for them that is their loss. I think that if you like them do them. I must admit that it would be quite surprising to see something of fire but if you act cool under fire (no pun intended) they will realize it is a trick and you did it on purpose so enjoy!

As far as acting cool under fire, man, Daff is cool as a cucumber, always!

For instance if I plan on going into a convenience store and paying for my purchases with my Kapps Wallet, then it would be crazy to go around looking for the manager just to ask if I can amaze the cashier with my fire wallet. He would probably think I am a lot crazier than I actually am.

This is not as difficult an issue as you may think. Contact your local fire department to see what the law is. If open flames are illeagal, then don't use the wallet.
It's usually fairly cut and dried. Now you may think it is very cool to pull your Kapps wallet out to pay for a purchase somewhere. But look at it from this perspective: Let's say that you didn't know that the cashier was afraid of flames. He or she freaks out. The manager comes over and files charges on you. It's not far-fetched. It happens. I lost a major trade show account because I was too stubborn to do what they told me. Now I listen. Have you ever heard the expression "Listen to the voice of experience?" I'm the voice of experience.
