Greg - I would suggest re-reading Simon Cowell's last post here, digesting it and responding to the specific questions he raised. Personally, I only know most of the markets you mentioned are difficult to find success. You need a polished show and a thorough understanding of the markets. Business skills will be paramount. You will need to sort through many things to start and Mindpro has actually helped you to begin this process. I would roll with that and see where it leads you.

Mind-Pro - My current "product" is restaurant/bar magic. I know restaurant business and I have always entertained the guests that I have performed for doing tableside magic.
A typical routine would be a short 2 ball sponge ball routine, then ambitious card, then my version of a triumph routine, then I would usually close with Stigmata. So that's a little bit about my about my performance background I have done several birthday parties that have been mostly younger kids. |

Eatonmagic - I probably only ended up handing out about 20 - 25 biz cards at the conference. But, I think I am going to take Magicpro's advice and slow way down. Taking all the feedback and advice that I have gotten in the last few days I have come to terms that I have really only been up to this point an amateur/hobbyist with a few gigs that I got paid for. I realize that I am still pretty much at the crawling stage. I realize that I can do a few tricks pretty well but that none of the go together. There is no "show". It's really just a doing a trick and then another trick and another trick. So that's where am at now since being here at The Magic Café. Which is pretty much at the bottom looking up.

Greg - I believe you are actually farther along than you may realize. Knowing what you don't know is a huge step towards learning it. I have seen many people over the past three years come in here, make a post similar to your first one and then not like the feedback, stop posting and drift off, refusing to believe or understand words of wisdom from true professionals that take their time to share here. Do not be discouraged. Your experience is very valuable and will greatly expedite your learning curve. I wish I had the real world working background you have, when I first started getting advice here. I do know quite a few magicians though, who are great at manipulation and performing at a restaurant, yet earn less than I do because they never were willing to treat their craft as a business, or invest in themselves. You will quickly surpass these individuals if you form a plan and take action, remembering to invest your time and money on the business side of things.

I agree with charliecheckers. To get discouraged and stop now would be a big mistake.
Of course you're not great now, but so what, big deal, waiting is not going to change a thing. Grow as you go, but by all means GO. Tom

Eatonmagic - sorry I misread. I collected about maybe 5 or 6 biz cards from others.
