Here are the specs for the Ultimate Gig Case II 35" tall when open, which I think is a standard height for most tables. I usually work with most of my audience sitting, with some standing towards the back, so this has not been an issue...at least for me. However when I stand back from my table (approximately 8 feet) I can not see into the table at all. I think the table being 8" deep helps also. Another thing that works for me is that I work in front or to the side of the table. If I have a volunteer(s) on stage with me, I will pull the table back a bit, just to keep their eyes from wandering (of course I keep them well engaged on stage). This just my perspective from using the table for the past few years. Mark

I am using a Lefler right now...I don't like going behind it at all to get stuff out. My wife made that comment to me during a show she watched me do on Saturday...told me I need to also find some sort of table on wheels so I can put stuff on so I'm not ducking behind the lefler...I'll have to figure something out...

That's a terrific and practical looking table Jonty. For myself, I use a fairly large old suitcase on a waiters tray stand. I have puppets, some juggling stuff etc, in addition to the magic props. The suitcase works out well.

I have used a Lefler for years...not sure I actually duck down. I do go behind it to get props. I keep all my props on the top two shelves and use the bottm for a ditch. I don't see the big issue of going beind the table to get something...as long as you don't squat down and "hide" behind the table...
My thoughts. |

I also don't understand why the inside of the tables are painted black so the props, if they do get misplaced, can't be readily seen. I re painted mine years ago. Don't use it any more, it weighs more than my whole show does. |

Jakeg -
All of the Lefler tables are now made with a white interior. It was that way before Joe passed away, and Christopher took over building them. And one further improvement that Christopher made, is that he now has a battery operated light inside them, in addition to the white interior. - Donald

Dynamike, just put longer legs on it! Jakeg, I've seen lots of magicians do that too and you're right, they do seem very disorganised. With John's table design the back panel opens into a large shelf, I have all my props laid out in show order so there's never any searching or fumbling, everything is there for me to see but nicely away from nosy kids eyes lol. My new table is ready, I'll see if I can get a photo or two for you guys to see. It's a much smaller design, though still based on the top half of John's table, it stands on a laundry bag frame with the laundry bag acting as a built in dump bag. Photos to follow! |

OK, couple of pics of the new table, now ready for my four shows on Saturday. It's lighter, can be carried in one hand, with the folding dump bag/stand in the other and my pa system slung over my shoulder. Easy! Not as much prop carrying space as the old table but I've moved to packs small/plays big props now anyway. The only thing that doesn't fit inside is my New Style Magic Painting but that fits perfectly in the folding dump bag so can be carried easily

Aha! Sorry about the low resolution, can't seem to upload anything better. But you get the idea.

It might be difficult to see from the photo.
This is a two piece table. You can see it from the front and a reflection in the mirror. The bottom has two compartments. One holds a transport cage and the other holds the actual appearance box. The top swings open to make 3 compartments. Each one is open on the inside. When is use, there are props on top, in the open compartments and in the empty shelve on the botton. Nothing ever gets stuck, lost or trapped under anything else because of all the access. Not only can I reach down with my eyes shut but I can use the top as a servante. I also have a shelve in the top that holds an umbrella and other long items. The second table is there just for looks. As the various effects are performed they are put away. This gives the audience a gage to know whn the show is going to be over. Less props equals less time remaining. Click here to view attached image.
