I caught snippets of the Breaking Magic (also called The Magic of Science) episode called Disused Institution and they showed something that I want to know more about. Unfortunately, the kids were running around at just the wrong moment and I missed the vital info.

I believe they were able to produce EVP by playing a voice at a certain inaudible frequency through hidden speakers. The voice could however be recorded and played back using an iphone. Has anyone seen this? I've been searching for it and can't find anything. I may have misunderstood or misheard the explanation and really want to know what the effect was. The show revealed all but if you don't want to reveal here then please PM me.

I've been looking for an audio app that could play a voice recording at the inaudible range of 18- 20 Khz, for just these reasons. Ask people to start recording with their phones during an evp session (while you discretely play the track). No one would hear anything, but when the recording is played back... the terror.... I too would love some advice from a knowledgable individual!

Lucien - EXACTLY! Imagine a group of 15 people, all recording with their own phones and all capturing a voice. That's a bingo! I was hoping to do it myself as I have a friend who is a music producer. He claims however, that you can't change the frequency of a human voice. If you got rid of all frequencies between 20 and 20,000 kHz (the human hearing range) then the voice would disappear too as it is in this range. The speakers required to play back infrasound would be mega expensive and he seriously doubts that an iphone would be able to record frequencies in that range.

Dr Spektor was working with Ceseral on some device(can't remember the name!) that may work with the phones!

Imagine a group with phones, and only a few or one chosen can get the EVP , and others could not !

Not copying his effect, but still looking for a homemade way to exploit the fact that an iphone recorder can pick up sounds in the human inaudible range. Someone told me about an app that schoolkids use to communicate, using the fact that they can hear in a range higher than adults, has anyone here heard of it?
