I know this is going to raise the hackles of most of you on here, but I have been hired to hypnotise at a kids birthday party. The mother caught my college show and wants a sample for her kids party.
I will let you all know how it goes.

What is the age range if the group?
...it's funny. I am, at this moment, listening to Gerald Kein discuss hypnotizing children on my phone, and was when I read your post.

The children are eight to ten. I would prefer them twelve to fourteen, but you have to work with what is in front of you.

It will be a very wonderful time for the children... what kind of "induction" will you use?
|
TonyB2009 Inner circle 5006 Posts |
A very simple and direct induction - hand clasp, no 'trance'. I think. Won't really know until I get there, but that is the plan. Twenty minute hypnosis bit, then do some magic, which is what the kids will want.
Or else I might hypnotise the mother, make her think she has seen a hypnosis show, and actually do a magic show!

Once I went to home of my friend, and found his son with a little plastic sword, he was 6 or 7 years old, I played with him, I told him he was a knight and I was a dragon, and we ran around... then I told that I was a tree and he cannot see me... then I ask him if he know how frog does... and he becomes a frog jumping and screaming "cra cra" around laughing...

Do a magic show! Why on earth would you do a hypnosis show? They don't need hypnotized they are already in trance. Totally crazy.

MP, you are not wrong. But I have been hired, and will show up. I have warned the mother that if hypnosis is a silly idea on the day, it will be magic. But at least I will give it an honest try.
I had a hypnosis show last Friday in a small rural pub, fifteen people in. I had the magic show there as back up, but gave it an honest try, and got three great volunteers and a fun hypnosis show. The pub want me back. So that will be my approach; try, and have the tricks ready in case.

Yeah I agree but 8 year olds? The parent is mental. Are all the parents up for it?
Good luck Tony |

What kind of effect do you think ?
I think, after the first effects, something in roleplaying can be very funny: indians and cowboys... aliens and astronauts... dad and mom... "when you open your eyes you become your mom... and your mom is your daughter..."... what kind of effect do you think to do? |

Hypnotizing children isn't funny. They act silly anyhow. What will be the difference?

I don't think 8 year olds are mature enough to understand what hypnosis is. If you were to hypnotize the parents and give the kids control over them somehow but even then I think they are too young even for that.
On the downside it could end up making you look really creepy. |

It's not just a maturity, but to me the main issue is their short attention span and ability to focus and concentrate as needed. I flight response is all you're seeking maybe okay, but that will not create a good live performance in the respect of what people (adults) expect to see in a hypnosis show.

You are right, Mindpro. I believe I will do some light stuff with the kids, and do some better stuff with one adult volunteer, if it works right. I will keep the hypnosis to twenty minutes, and then revert to kiddies magic, which is what she should have booked in the first place. I would have no problem facing fifty young kids. You could do something. But there will be maybe ten, and different ages. It is a disaster waiting to happen. I see my job as directing the disaster and ensuring it doesn't turn to a tragedy!
The last time I hypnotised kids there were sixty of them in a theatre, and they were all twelve. Everything was stacked in my favour.

I also think some suggestabiity tests could work well wit the kids if framed properly and be perceived as light hypnosis.

Who is the show for the kids or the parents? Why would a parent want such a show for young kids? if anyone can make it work though Im sure you can Tony.

The gig is over, and it went as badly as everyone might have expected.
It was in a marquee in a back yard, with a dozen kids ranging in age from five to twelve, and half a dozen disinterested adults. I opened with a good magic trick to gain the attention. Then I did the hypnotic spiral bit, for the first and last time in my career. It was as lame as it always is. Then I did some quick suggestibility tests on the audience. Finger lock worked on a few. Most were too busy watching everyone else to participate. One five year old reacted to everything. I stuck her foot to the wall, and did a few other things, which she found very amusing, and which everyone found very cute. Then I cut my losses and did a standard magic show, which is what I should have done in the first place. A complete failure, but they were all happy with the show, so no great loss. Later on that night I was hypnotising gorgeous women at a hen night, which was more fun!

Doesn't sound like a complete failure at all. I think you got the most out of such a situation.
And they were happy so... |
