I am lucky to live close enough to Chris Gould that the occasional face to face meet-up is possible.
A few days ago, on Friday the 13th no less, Chris made time to meet me in a nondescript coffee shop. Six hours flew by as we talked about magic, Alchemy Moon projects past, present and future, philosophy, magic, video games, psychology, performance and magic. As always Chris asked questions that were deliberately thought-provoking and challenging about the nature of performance and magic - both in general and referring to specific effects and routines I have been working on. This led to a conversation about leaving trickery behind and making space for real magic to manifest. Chris described the process of manifestation in Western mysticism - whereby a desired outcome is visualised, desired and when conditions are right is comes into being. He handed me a pack of cards, which he asked me to shuffle. He asked me to take a moment and then told me I should cut to the four of diamonds. I cut the pack. Four of diamonds. Real. Magic. I shuffled again. Chris never asked to handle the pack. Then he told me to cut to the seven of clubs. I cut and there it was. We repeated the procedure three more times. Each time Chris named a different card before I cut the pack and each time I cut to the card he named. I'll be honest - in amongst this incredible run of hits there was one miss. Once I cut the pack and didn't hit the card he named. But five times out of six, I cut to the exact card. If Chris could bottle what happened in those few minutes, he could retire this week and watch the dirty cash pile up around him like Scrooge McDuck. I'll say it again. Real. Magic. Methodless, clean and beautiful. Oh, and Chris talked me through two new projects he's working on. Both are brilliant. One is a novel and beautiful system capable of deep readings and (if desired) cheeky subterfuge. The other is harder to describe. It's a reading system, an after-dinner game, a way of life and a tool for genuine psychological profiling. It can explore, crystalise, clarify and (importantly) improve a subject's self-image and self-understanding. It is playful and deep and powerful and fun all at the same time. Both projects are unlike anything that has gone before. Watch this space, and make room for some real magic.

Can't wait for more info. Especially a new reading system.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

This nondescript coffee shop, was it that joint nestled in the roots of the elder tree, or... was it situated on that parallel intersection between 4th and Reality? (Euclid's, I think it's called. Great cup of joe, but the service is very slow.)
What an epic teaser! Ready for more.
