Hey there guys, this is just a question for those of you that play a bit of poker (hold em).

Is it always wrong to fold hands like 23 and 27 offsuit? I understand if it's Limit because of the negative expectation, but if it's No-Limit, isn't the implied odds you're getting good?

If you play hands like 23, 27 even if suited you will go broke in a hurry.

One would play hands, dog hands, like these for a particular reason such as advertisement. Bluffing all in depends on the situation and who you are playing against.

There is so much to say on this subject, I just sracthed the surface. My comments come from over 40 yrs of playing poker at card casinos in Gardena, California.

If you're the last to bet, have a high stack compared to everyone else and everyone else called with no raise, then why not stay in to check the flop. But if if any of those conditions are different, then fold. A simple high card pair will sink all 23, 27 pairs.

It depends on the blinds and how much money you have with you at the table.

But in reality no it won't, because even if you make a straight someone might easily have a card higher than you, if there is a flush then someone will have a higher flush than you, and I'd even be wary of Trips because someone could easily have a better kicker than you. Your only hope for the nutz would be to get a full boat or four of a kind which is rare.

The amount of money you will throw away to crap cards far outweighs what you will realisticly gain from playing them.

Now, you might play them and show to throw off people that are trying to read you...

It sounds like you are saying that the no-limit tables you are playing at get to the flop very cheaply, something you should defeniatly not let happen.

Again, if the conditions are right it makes sense to call and wait for the flop if no one raises the first round. You may drop a trip or two pair. If you drop a trip, then you don't have to worry about the kicker. I've very rarely seen two matching trips at the end of a hand with reference to the kicker to see who wins.

Jive turkey it is almost never right to play 23 . If you are last to bet and play 23 and the folp comes a pair of duces, well your looking real good however if some one was playin ace duce well hell take you to the cleaners,
one plays dogs like 23 for a reason not on hope of winning the pot.as I stated in my earlier post.

Thanks for the advice guys...it's one of those counter intuitive things I had to get my head around, i.e. not playing bad expectation hands.

btw, what are you opinions on medium suited connector hands, the kind that brunson recommends. Are they worth as much as he states they are?

They are worth it to throw off your opponent into thinking you'll play rags a bunch, but don't expect to use them for very many money making oppertunities.

Position ,position positiont one of the most critical
aspects of holdem; last to speak is alwasy the best position . Then there is table position, play ing against strong or weak apponnents.then theres position at the moment of the hand calling, raising, betting bluffing etc,,.......
poker is realy a very difficult game to master if it wasn't we would all be winners.
