Hi all. I'm very glad to announce, that my take on Canasta's Book Test have been published today and available from Amira. The name of the effect is "Canastos".
We have many book tests, some of them are great, some of them not, some of them are expensive, some of them not. But we don't have many BT predictions. How great it would be to give spectator an envelope, let him choose any page in the book, any line and any word - the word which is written in the envelope. No secret writing No assistants Use any book from your shelf No switching Preparation in a couple of minutes Spectator is amazed by the effect, performers who tested this are amazed by the method. Added in the books are ideas on presentation, how to be bold and every step is described in detail. Added is a super-idea by Pablo Amirá who made the whole process completely impromptu and a 2 phase routine that will make you chuckle and an inredible surprise within the pages for a buyers - the best impromptu Book Test ever made. Canastos contains 2 videos of me and Pablo Amirá explaining everything what you will need to know before succesfully performing this AAA miracle. In these times, where eBooks are offered by some performers for hundrends of dollars, I decided to keep friendish integrity inside our community with a very very good price for what you get, Canastos is available for $15. I'm grateful to all performers who tested it, who improved it and who actually inspired me to make it. Thank you mom and dad for myself! Opinions: "This booktest combines some great methods to create a very direct effect. The approach uses multiple methods that back each other up and lead to a very flexible and clean approach which is what good mentalism is all about." - Marc Paul "I enjoyed "Canastos" and find it a worthy and valuable addition to my own impromptu arsenal. I definitely recommend it!" - Jerome Finley "Just finished to read this pdf, very good impromptu book test to do anytime, anywhere, I really like the fact that uses multiple methods! Great job guys!" - Luca Volpe "This is a great book test. I like it a lot!" - Art Vanderlay "Great job! Nice compilation of various ideas. I also like some of the bonus ideas." - Patrik Kuffs "A very simple and effective idea to perform a book test that allows you to predict the choice of word." - Andreu "I believe CANASTOS is really great and brilliant. Two thinkers putting their heads together and trying to emulate fair conditions on Chan Canastas wonderful book test." - Alex Alejandro Thank you all who will buy, who will read, who will use. I was aked to express some thoughts about Canastos - so first off many thanks to Ulrich for sending over a copy!
What we have here is a simple and bold approach to a 'predicted booktest'. Putting aside that I'm not best friend with predictions in general, let's have a look at the effect and method instead. The performer gives a spectator an envelope to keep. Then he is handed a book and invited to check it. Through several steps a page, then a line and finally a word is selected. Of course, it matches the predicition inside the envelope! Well, since you don't have to be a seasoned veteran to tell that in most cases a prediction is accomplished by nothing less than a force, I'm not spoiling anything here. However, things are getting more complicated if the selection process comprises different steps. In Canastos Ulrich combines three methods to narrow down the spectator's choice of which each is technically easy and virtually gimmickless. I have encountered each method in a different context before but not woven into a routine like this. It's a great touch that Ulrich presents an Out by Marc Paul to offer a fallback in case things go wrong. In times where bold approaches in mentalism are gaining more and more followers, Canastos hits the same vein - don't expect to find clever gimmicks or special moves, instead use it as a springboard for an entertaining performance which requires you to practice and be confident in what you're doing. An interesting read for sure and recommend to any "predicited boktest" enthusiast! Canastos can be purchased here or through Alakazam.

Here is a review from Full Circle Magic group:
"Canastos A Homage To Chan by Ulrich von Etzenbach Canastos was written by Ulrich von Etzenbach and Pablo Amira, revised by Mike Vance Review by Edward Mann This PDF is a book test, including other handlings, inspired by David Britland’s book about Chan Canasta. Like all really great effects this PDF will give you a simple yet strong way to perform a book test. The main effect has the word genuinely sealed in an envelope and given to the spectator at the very start of the effect. The spectator chooses a page, then a number of lines and finally has free choice over the word on that line and when they open the envelope the word that they have selected is the word predicted inside. No “special” books are required and there is minimal set up. You will need to practise this effect, which is strongly encouraged in the PDF. There are links to two YouTube videos that help with the setup and understanding how to do this book test. One of them is the funniest instructional video I think I have ever seen. In summary what you get is a PDF detailing one very strong book test, with both gimmicked and ungimmicked handlings, an out for when things go wrong, plus the encouragement to be bold and put in the proper practise. It can be performed impromptu (you will need a book of course) with the correct handling. I would recommend this book test for performers looking for a very clean, powerful, engaging piece of mentalism that could be performed wherever you go. Rating: 5 Stars Level: Intermediate" http://www.fullcirclemagic.com/canastos-homage-chan-review/ |

Recent experience with Canastos:
While waiting for a client in the Café, a friend of mine was on a meeting with his friends, he saw me and immediately asked me to perform something on the group. I needed to do something that I can perform completely surrounded and I didn't have a cards on me. First of all, I done a group psychological forcing of three objects, they were already astonished, but I needed to level up a believeability of a performance. I saw that a young lady had a book with her and I immediately grabed it and performed Marc Paul's AAA Book Test on a guy that was sitting next to me. They started to get into a mood and clapped a bit in the end of the revelation of the words. I needed something very strong to end the performance with. I performed Canastos. The whole little audience plus a few strangers that came to a table started to clap and appreciate my abilities. That friend of mine phoned me back in the late evening and thanked me so much, because they spent all their Café time talking about my performance and even made a new friendships with the strangers involved in my performance. It was a heart-warming to hear such a testament for my performance and Canastos as well. I hope you can see the value of Canastos now, it is one of the best impromptu effects you can do anywhere, anytime. Cheers, Ulrich |
