Does anyone here remember an effect from years back called the vanishing stack of decks? That may not have been the exact name, but it's close.
Anyway, the effect is that a stack of about seventeen Bicycle decks are covered with a scarf and instantly vanished except for one deck, which you use to do your first card effect. Anyway, I had forgotten about this  effect for a long time, but just ran across it while rearranging my props, and got to practicing the effect, then remembered how much I like it, and am considering putting it back in my show. Oldies but goodies. I actually used the model I purchased to construct my own out of real Bicycle boxes. I think it looks more realistic this way. Anybody here remember this effect?

I love the sound of crickets singing in the background...

I believe that Hank Lee marketed that, recall seeing it in a past catalog. Wasn't it invented by a Skip (cannot rember the last name). Effect looked cool but have never seen one in real life. It is fun to go back and re-visit things we have set aside for whatever reason.

Yes, it was ol' Hank who sold it to me. I think over the years I singlehandedly made Hank rich.
But that's another story. The effect is suitable for stage or platform. You need to pre-set it before you walk out, so it should be an opening effect. And it is a bit "touchy". There is a delicate handling involved, for you don't want the decks to vanish prematurely.  Shall we call that premature envanishmentulation? Whatever you call it, it's not good. The stack can be set up so it is quite stiff. But just the wrong touch can make it go limp quite easily. Very embarrassing, to say the least! I'm working on covering the stack with a cloth and tossing the cloth in the air, (no asrah) and I want to do it in a snappy manner, as I think it should be a snappy effect. It does have it's limitations, though. I have used it on stage years ago, but after these many years, I'm a newbie to the effect. Good ol' fallible human memory. I don't have the original instructions, so I don't recall if he suggested the cloth method, or if he said to simply "turn around and back" and do the vanish that way. I totally reconstructed the effect from real Bicycle deck boxes, as I didn't feel the original looked realistic enough to pass.Â

Sounds cool Doug. I purchased my share from Hank as well :0. I assume he is now out of jail but have never heard any updates. I still miss the Cape Cod Conclaves.

To tell you the truth, I know Hank was bad. REAL bad, in fact. No justifying what he did. But in spite of all that, I still miss the elf, and I miss spending my dough there. Yeah. Call me crazy.
