During this very cold and dry winter here in the Northeast US, I picked up a tin of hand treatment that is basically a block of beeswax. Before it is fully absorbed, the wax leaves the fingers very tacky. I've found that using some on the pad of the ring finger makes the fingertip rest position very solid. On the pad of the thumb it makes it easy to draw a coin back into a claw finger palm (sorry, I can't think of the proper name), making for a slicker ROV. For someone with dryer hands like mine, this has made a big difference. In fact, the combination of tack and dryness work together for some excellent action.
Has anyone experimented with beeswax or similar products to improve manipulation? |

Haven't tried beeswax, but I have some Gorilla Snot on the way. http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Snot-Origi......_pr_pb_t
Supposed to have similar qualities. Jim |

Just ordered some myself. Looks like there are lots of wax grips for drummers as well.

I just received my order of Gorilla Snot. Wow! Way too gummy and messy. I had to use Goo-Gone to clean off my hands and the coin. Here's the product that's working for me. I think there might be something better, but I like this for now.

I agree. I can't believe anyone finds this stuff beneficial to their coin handling. I made sure to try it out on a few old, beat up Kennedy half dollars. It's like pine tar.

I went to Guitar Center and got some Gorilla Snot and I also found it unusable.I have since found that Glycerin on my hands works best.It seems as if it creates a bit of a vacuum and makes my hands just tacky enough.

I'm glad my local music store was out now. They also told me it is discontinued because they cant get it in anymore. When I told him Amazon had some he went to his computer to order some that he needed but I opted to stick with violin resin.

I use Chamberlain's but it doesn’t last too long for me. Ten minutes at most before I need to redo it.

I used Chamberlain's but also found I had to reapply too often.Plain glycerin rubbed into my hands then I wash my hands about 30 minutes later and I'm good for the day.

I have two cans of "sticky wax" (that are "lost" right now in my storage facility!)
They were picked up in a store that sells candles! --A bit of the wax could be applied to the butt end of a candle, and the candle would stick on a flat surface. A young lad "in" the Café wants to try some for card on ceiling, and, I've diligently searched for my "supply". They seem to have "disappeared" (@#%%) !!! I can't even remember the 'name' of the stuff. If ever I find the cans, I'll pass along the information. I, too, have used Chamberlain's, I don't do anything in close up work which needs "sticky" hands. I just "spritz" a little on my hands before a show, and it helps. Oh~ just remembered that years ago, I used golfers "Pro Grip". It was a slightly sticky "paste" that helped. (bowlers use it, too.)

Corn Huskers Lotion works for me. It has glycerin in it and it leaves a nice tack to my hands without being too sticky. Don't use too much at a time, just a dab will do.
And you can also get beeswax, the basis of magicians wax, at art supply stores too. It is used for dripless candles and for jewelry making. |
