Hey guys, I just saw a film,.. blew me away.
First, I admitt, I'm not really up on the latests,..
when Devious Posted those movie stars, a couple of weeks ago,..
I had no clue who they were,..
Maybe this is old news,..
if so,.. sorry,..
still,... WOW!!,!

The film is called,.. 'Finding Vivian Meier'.

ok,.. what's it with 'Sidewalk Shuffling to do?"
She was a street photographer,.. 1950's to 2000.
wow,...
we often talk about 'Art',.. " what is Art?",.. bla bla,...
this lady went for it.

A really great film.
Really,. really great,..
made my hair stand up,..
and I'm half bald!
enjoy,
gallagher.

It is an amazing movie, not only for the subject matter but the way they filmed it. Agree wholeheartedly.

PS: Have you seen The Mexican Suitcase? Another great documentary along similar lines.

Hey Acephale,
thanks for the Tip(!).
googled it,...just watched the trailer,..
looks good!
I'm gonna track it down.
thanks,
Gallagher

p.s.: Robert Capa's photos are out of the Spanish Civil war, I read.
An interesting tag-on, is Laurie Lee.
He's somewhat famous in Great Britain, for his bestseller 'Cider with Rosie' (Great!).
His second book, 'As I walked out one fine sunny Morning' documents his 'Busking days',..
through London,.. down to Spain,..
up until the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.
A great Busker's Tail!
His third book, 'A Moment of War', talks about his return to Spain,
joining the International Legion,... good read.
The 'winter read' though, is 'Laurie Lee. The welcomed Stranger', his biography,... wow!
Movie material!
,... great Busker.

thanks Acephale,..
you got my going!
The Mexican Suitcase,... looks good!

BBC put together a documentary of Vivian Maier, last year.
It's not the film, I'm talking of,.. but watching the trailer,
you can get an idea of the story,..
and see some of her work.

http://www.filmbuff.com/films/the-vivian......-trailer

,I hope that works(!).
have a good day,
gallagher.

p.s.: youtube has the 'trailer' for 'Finding Vivian Maier' , the film,.. up and running.
It gives a good idea,..
amazing thing about the film,though,.. it wasn't just an "uncover unknown Artist" story,..
The film turns one corner after another(!).
Right when you think it obvious,... BAM!,
they hit you with another surprise..
really well done,..
really good story,..
really some great Photography!
sometimes,. just Photos,.. and the audience responds(!),
out loud(!),.
in a 'silent' cinema!
Great film,.. try to catch it.

Big fan of Laurie Lee's books. His description of how it feels the very first time you perform in public is spot on and I quote it requently.

The beauty of Vivian Maier is that she was not a professional photographer. She was a devoted hobbyist. She was a professional nanny that took photographs to please herself on her time off. She seemed a solitary individual with few if any friends. While no one discusses it, I suspect that she may have had some degree of spectrum disorder. She is acclaimed to be an artist after the fact. Her life seemed to be one of being a spectator and a silent witness.

Honestly she would be unknown if the right person hadn't bought her stuff when it was being auctioned off for failure to pay her storage unit's rent. The stars lined up right for once and this interesting eccentric lady is gaining a little renown for her candid photography (coming to be known as street photography nowadays). From a pure historical perspective we get to see a nice slice of urban life in the post war 50s and 60s.

I love the stories of great eccentrics! The world just doesn't seem to have enough of them.
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!
