I know a lot excellent  books and resources have been recommended for beginners in these threads, and none of the recommendations are shabby, by any means. I want to
make my endorsement for a resource, and from the very start I need to make it clear that I am in no way, shape or form receiving any compensation for writing this. I simply want to reach out a hand and help the new guys. You are the lifeblood of this art of magic, and without new magicians the art of magic will eventually die. We appreciate you! Now for my recommendation. Jim Snack has been a full time professional probably before many of you were born. He has written a three binder course called appropriately "Success In Magic" that is available through his website. www.successinmagic.com. Besides the other resources that have been cited here for beginners, I give this course the absolute highest five star rating I can give. In the course, Jim covers EVERYTHING you need to know to become a successful magician. He hasn't left anything out. It's a comprehensive, complete course from a man who has walked the walk, and if you do your diligence and follow his advice, I sincerely believe you can cut YEARS off of your learning curve. The investment will save you time, money, hassle, and needless frustration trying to climb up that ladder of magical success. Instead of bumping your head on the wall in a dark maze, Jim will turn on the lights and show you the fastest way through the maze to the wonderful cheese at the end! My heart really goes out to the new magicians, because they are trying so hard to find "the way", and after a major loss in my life, I am now in the same boat, starting my show all over from scratch. So I feel for you guys, and I am taking my own advice and studying Jim's course as if my life depended on it. And the more I study it, the more I realize what a splendid job he has done with it. I don't know what else I can say, except to say that this course is worth your serious, serious consideration, and it's certainly worth every penny of the cost. I wish with all my heart Jim had written this way back when I first picked up a Lou Tannen's catalog and started spending my dough on magic effects. This is Daff signing off for now, wishing you success in magic!

Jim's got several free articles on that site, and many products $20 or less. If you ever want to make money with magic, his stuff will help - and one show can get it all back.

One simple question - How much does the course cost? I couldn't find the price anywhere, and I'm not going to sign up for his free lessons without knowing the price of the rest of the course.
Thanks!

It's been a long time since I bought it, so I don't remember, but I can look for a receipt for you.
There are several prices, depending on which package you choose. I think I bought the gold edition. but it's been so long. I recall he also offers phone consultation with the package.

Just go here and scroll to the bottom. http://www.success-in-magic.com/store/ I'm interested.

Jim's complete package contains much more than it did a decade ago, and is less expensive than then. From 2002 - 2011, I traveled all across the United States (wife had a traveling job) and was able to get booked and perform everywhere we went. Let me repeat that: Everywhere. We. Went. And it came from studying Jim's course and doing what he said. And yes, this included "homework" with Jim's workbooks.
And when Jim offers coaching support (90 days unlimited email support and a 30-minute phone call in there -- but don't expect Jim to stop at 30 minutes! He loves his work!) believe you me that even one day of that can turn out to be worth much more than the cost of the course. ONE tip he gave me turned out to get me three shows within the following month. Color me a Jim Snack fan. You'll be one too. *jeep! and God Bless! ---Grandpa Chet

I was already a professional for over 20 years or so when I bought Jim's course and still learned a thing or two from it. A great reference to have and guide if I ever want to teach others as well.
Jim send me a check please.
