Well.. Yeah. It's a mat I got from Tannens, my favorite mat.. Knocked a candle over, and wax got on it. How can I get it out without damaging this thing? not sure how durable they are; anyone ever have this happen before? I doubt it, but maybe.. Anyhow.. How would you try and get it out?
Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any replies. |

I would try a hair dryer

What about putting it in a freezer? When you take it out it may be easier to remove the wax. Not sure what the freezer would do to the mat, though. Maybe better put the mat in a plastic bag before putting the whole thing in the freezer...
But maybe the hot wax has burnt the velvet of the mat's surface, therefore it's ruined for good even beneath the wax. |

Maybe you can shoot Pattrick from Pattrick's Magic an email? He makes good close up mats and he sold me one. He seemed like a nice guy, and I figure if he makes the things maybe he knows how to fix this problem?

Don't use a hair dryer, that would ruin it more, use ice directly on the wax.

Yes a hair dryer will cause more damage... freezing and scraping the hard wax off with a butter knife is the way to go. This will sound strange... wart remover based on freezing will quickly harden the wax.
Be gentle or you will have problems with the knap of the mat... I wish you luck! Bruce |

Melting the wax it with heat will let it drip farther down into the base of the mat where you'll never get it out.
Freeze it. I'd put an ice cube in a baggie and apply it to the wax, so as not to add melt-water to your troubles. |

I have hung my mat upside down and used a hair dryer and never have had any problems. I had a candle melt onto my mat from the sun.

Put a piece of blotting paper on the wax and iron the whole thing from the back. Put the iron on a low temperature first to see if it works at all. Rather go a while on the low temperature and wait than turning the heat up too fast.
