Right off, I should say my five-year old son loves the show; it's his second exposure to magic (the first, apart from me putzing around with sleight of hand, was Timothy Noonan's show at the SF Bay Aquarium.) He's even asked to watch the latest episode I recorded instead of his favorite cartoons. My plan is working- I'll turn him into a magician yet
I do remember the first version of the show, when it was a full 60 minutes. For the format, cutting it to 30 minutes was actually a good thing; there's only a limited amount of material being performed, so the 60-minute version ended up repeating effects over and over again- the Zombie-of-the-week, or yet another sub-trunk. The only way that could be interesting was if you liked to compare the styles of performances between magicians. With the 30 minute length, they haven't repeated an illusion yet. Of course, the best show format might be a 30-60 minute "Performer of the week" style show, where the magician could perform a longer set... but since there would be times of just someone talking on stage instead of performing something flashy, it doesn't grab the channel surfers, and probably would only work on cable. And, outside of magicians, I wonder what demographic it would target? Then again, are there even that many channel surfers anymore, now that there's DVRs? Anyway, I agree with TheRaven- any magic on TV is good.

Yikes, just saw this tonight. Painful. Worst editing I've ever seen. Not good for magic or magicians IMO.

The half-hour format has resulted in a very rushed and anxious tone to the whole proceedings. Better than nothing? I'm not quite sure.

Bad decisions in editing and content as far as I am concerned.
Repeated plot lines; Murray produces a vehicle behind a sheet, and someone else does the same thing a week later. Same with card manipulations, two sawings in half, etc; When laymen see the same routines repeated so closely together, they assume that 'all magician so the same thing'. Based on the episodes seen thus far...they are right.

I actually got tickets to see this show live in DC. So I'm sure it will be better live. Can't wait!

The thing that bugs me about this show is that Dean Cain keeps telling us to keep our eyes on the next performer because the camera will not cut away from him, and then the camera cuts away 14 times from that performer. Stop saying that!

They could change up the script a little to make it more natural. Some good talent on the show, but I'm surprised the editors allowed as much flashing/exposure as they did. I'm referring to things that the performers could not control such as a camera pointing in exactly the wrong spot at the right time. It would have only required trimming a few frames (all of 1 second of video) to fix, or better yet... just use one of the other camera angles at that moment. Someone above mentioned 8 cameras being used. Yet on multiple occasions the editors chose footage from the ONE camera showing something it shouldn't. Did no magicians review the footage before the final cut was approved and aired? In this digital age of being able to watch something frame by frame, I expected a magic show to be more sensitive to this issue. Regarding the "happy medium" question, they actually did have a psychic lined up to appear on the show, but he had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
