15 out of 20. Having an art background helps a little.

Expressive "toddler art" is also art.

I liked the toddler art better.

Why is the toddler art not considered modern art? If they're toddlers, by definition they are more modern than the other artists.

A friend of mine is an artist and did a series of paintings based on his grand sons drawings:

Because, presumably, toddlers are not doing what they're doing as a conscious form of self expression.

I remember "Murphy Brown" had this as a plot point. Murphy was annoyed by a couple of art critics who gushed over what she took to be scribbles on canvas. To prove her point, she had her toddler scribble on some canvas and entered it into the same art contest. She was surprised that only ONE of the two critics gushed over her kid's work. The other one said; (paraphriasing) "Wait, this looks like a child just scribbled onto a canvas."

I submit that toddler art can be and most likely always is a conscious form of self expression. Have you raised any kids? A piece will look like a scribble and the artist will tell you exactly what their picture represents.

And basing a theory or presumption on a "plot point" of a sit com ?

Well....

I agree with Pecan_Creek. The toddlers were certainly conscious of what they were expressing.

Eleven, but yes, all of the toddler art should be considermodern art and much is more interesting than the real modern art. I actually have the kind of brain that refuses to do either, meaning that my 'modern art' looks even worse than 'modern art' when done properly, thus it is better than 'modern art', thus 'modern art', and I think we all need a drink after trying to decipher what on Earth I just said. I noticed that all the truly beautiful ones were by the toddlers. They are incredibly good. The adults' work was controlled or dark somehow. Deliberate, and it showed in contrast. It makes me wonder if all toddlers can do good work sometimes, or are these culled from thousands of pieces of non-art?

I sometimes tell parents, about their children's work "Frame this and it will stay beautiful forever."

I'm sure they were selected from among thousands. The ones that showed stick figures labeled "Mommy" and "Daddy" would have been dead giveaways.

Modern Art by definition started in the 1800's and ended in the 1970's.
