I took the family for a drive in the country today and came back with two antique rabbit traps and an early 20th century automaton. The automaton is actually a band of musicians, singing and playing instruments.

The band is a great find, must be a way of making it play music as well.

Absolutely agreed, there must be a way, afterall it is a gramophone mechanism. I think if I could rig one of those wound music box actions into it, then the timber base would act as a sounding board and amplify it to quite a loud volume.

Maybe you could hide a Bluetooth speaker in it. Then you could remotely trigger any sounds you wanted !

Curious what you think the heads are made of?
Paper Mache perhaps? I wonder if it was a store window display at Christmas long long ago. |

Very interesting find. It does remind me of the old Christmas store window displays.

The figures are quite heavy, more than I would expect for papier mache. Possible it is clay over the top of a mache base.
