Here is the link http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04dh0rq - good to listen too.
Magic is not the suspension of reality, but the expansion of possibility, inviting us to question the limits of what we believe to be true.

I think it's a fair introduction for the layperson.
One thing it highlights for me though, rather ironically, is that hypnosis will never be taken seriously when it appears that anyone with little more than an opinion and a small amount of experience is presented as an expert on the subject. |

I switched off half way through. I found it really boring as most lay people would. I'm not sure who this was aimed at? I couldn't see many listening through to the end other than students of hypnosis.
I find hypnosis in general is taken seriously these days. The ironic thing I found was that many people would rather see a stage hypnotist with a problem than a hypnotherapist. That happened to me many many times over the years. It doesn't seem logical but whenever I tell a therapy client I started as a stage hypnotist they seemed to rate me higher than run of the mill therapists. So I'm not sure hypnosis has the negative image as claimed on the recording. |

Stage hypnotists have for whatever reason more prestige. Easy to see why. Look at all that is done when presented right. Those feelings get translated in many ways and therapists have no such advantage. They would have to doball the proving first.
The perception may be right or wrong it does not matter but it is there.
