I change my regular Crystal Silk Cylinder load for Christmas ornaments in the same color as the silks I put in.
I use Christmas music for some of my standards. I incorporate some Christmas riddles throughout my show. Snap-a-silk and silk thru glass with red, green and white silks. 20th century Santa. "Presents of Mind" mental effect (Christmas version of Deja Zoo) I use a red and green mouth coil (from a silk). I decorate my table with a garland of plastic holly. -Mary Mowder |

Sam, for something unusual, fun and very magical, try our "Santa's Penguin Eggs" interactive routine, which comes complete with props and its own custom musical score. We don't carry them year round, but offer them every Christmas season. Great audience responses and wonderful feedback from performers! Check our website around November for details.

Thanks for the mention of the Appearing Christmas Tree we make for the square circle "Green Machine" routine. You can see a bunch of videos of it here with ideas... https://www.youtube.com/results?search_q......mas+tree
Also we are making a large 15' talking Christmas tree animatronic if there are any here doing large scale productions. It is portable and packs down nicely. Ax

In 1957 Goodliffe (editor and publisher of Abracadabra magazine) published 'Santa's Workshop by Amalfi (W.F. Tunnah), a book of appx 50 pages all dealing with Christmas themed magic.
In the 1970's Supreme Magic released a trick called 'Mixed-Up Santa'. Based on Ian Adair's 'Dressing Doll' principle. You, the magician have received a large greetings card which has a press out Santa in B&W, so you need to colour him by magic. He vanishes from a chimney only to appear back in the (very large) greetings card, except he is in the wrong colour - green. An Irish Santa Claus. The children help and eventually he is found to be in the proper colour - red. Razamataaz Magic have some Santa tricks currently available: http://www.razamatazzmagic.com/magicshop......Surprise http://www.razamatazzmagic.com/magicshop......ng_Santa |

Bumping up this thread from last year ... Christmas probably seems a long way off here at the start of August , but the season will be here before we know it and any special seasonal routines need to be planned and rehearsed ... so here's one I remembered when I came across this thread :
Of course , who hasn't thought of referring to Joe Karson's famous floating silver sphere as a "Christmas tree ornament" for a holiday show, but Gene Poinc’s idea for a floating Christmas tree ornament (using an attachable/detachable z-gimmick) is something I liked enough to have copied and saved in my files from The Learned Pig Project website years ago . — [my own notes are in brackets] . Quote:
------- From this "Spirt of Christmas" idea by Poinc , I can also start to imagine how the Christmas Spirit theme might be adapted to Bill Abbott's "The Thing". At the end when you push "The Thing/Christmas Spirit" down into the box instead of the usual ending where the Thing is invisible , have it materialize as a Christmas ornament in the box . Working out the steal of the real Christmas ornament and getting it concealed under the cloth prior to making it's appearance in the box would be the hardest part , otherwise if you have performed The Thing then the rest of the moves would be pretty much what you're used to performing. If instead of the usual transparent box for The Thing , you substituted a wrapped gift box , this could be shown empty at the start and then at the end as you push the Thing back down into the box the Christmas ornament can materialize in the box . This would be done by means of the gift box being a small m _ rr _ r box with a moving (hinged) m _ rr _ r that drops down to reveal the ornament as you lift the cloth away. Build this sort of thing at a size that is appropriate for the size of ornament -- But decorated with Christmas wrapping paper. Or instead of a m _ rr _ r box it could be bl_ ck ar_ principle , though I think those tend to be less deceptive . "The Thing" is only about 2.5" - 3" diameter , so a matching size ornament is small enough to steal and conceal easily under the cloth , so probably would be more effective to have it materialize as you push it down into the transparent box, rather than use the other type of box. Just bouncing ideas around in my head right now ... it would need work . . |
