I'd like to get started doing some IT effects. Should I buy an ITR, and if so -- which one? I've heard of various systems that people use, but I'd like to use the easiest method possible until I get good at it.

The easiest would be the ITR since it is already set up.The original ibelieve is by the sorcery shop. I also recomend The Ammar videos on this subject. The regular IT is'nt that difficult, it just need some prep.

I know your asking abou the ITR but you might consider using regular thread and wax. I've done various versions of the levitation for over twnety years and I still prefer the control and simplicity of wax and thread.
I mean if nothing else you can always pull a little thread from your real and give it a try.

I would have to agree with paulnathan.
I have found that I use an ITR and a simpler LeClair style hookup MUCH differently. I think they are different tools for different tasks. I started with a simple IT w/wax hookup and have only recently started playing with a reel. rannie is right on with recommending the Ammar IT vids. They are really excellent. I also own "Who's afraid of IT?" with Jon Leclair. It is also an excellent visual source. Lots of info and practical uses/routines on both. FYI, the Ammar IT vids are a series of three and the LeClair vid is only one volume but will be a bit more expensive than one Ammar vid. We seem to sell about the same number of them and everyone is happy with thier respective purchases. You won't go wrong with either you might also check out the video/DVD forum for some reviews on each. PM me if you have any questions and I will try my best to answer them. Good luck with it! IT can be REALLY fun to perform as well as entertaining for the spectators. |

I am a fan of regular thread and wax, too! In this regard, I found "z webs" by John Kennedy very useful. It is more or less a thread dispender, very good.

Most dealers sell a pocket book on IT, Could be a great way to get started. There is one by David Blevins (sp).

I would say, Play with basic IT until you know its limitations and uses. Then get a cheap ITR and see how it lends itself to the effects you do.
If you like. Get an expensive one that will last your whole magical life.
