Any one here perform this effect? If so, do you find the gimmick easy to lose and keep track of in your pocket?
What I've found to be helpful, is to store and carry the thing in one of those little plastic easter eggs you can get every Easter. Makes it really easy to tell by feel where it is in your pockets. And instead of magician's wax, use Blue Tac. It works much better, and cleans off the coin without a tell tale residue. You can store it right in the egg along with the gimmick.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

I love chocolate coin! Your storage suggestion would work, but it seems a shame to make such a small item become so bulky in your pocket. I keep it attached to one of my own coins, which I carry in a small coin purse. Then, I can still remove it if I wish to do it with a borrowed coin, but honestly I get the same reaction doing on my own coin, so more often than not, which is what I do. That way I can use it as a segue in between coin tricks.

Actually, I was talking about the small size Easter eggs. These take up little space. Plus, I store the sticky stuff in there also.
Your comment was very surprising, because as a general rule, you get a much stronger reaction when you perform an effect with the spectators item. Of course, their are exceptions to every rule, but generally, I think the rule holds true. That is to say, if I am going to do something magical with a coin, I enjoy using the spectator's coin, so they can go tell all their friends "He did such and such with MY quarter!" And then they pull the quarter out and show their friends the coin, and their friends upon looking at it, can say , "No way!" etc., etc.,
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

I have always been afraid of doing this routine because I found the gimmick was constantly getting wrecked in my pocket. Thanks for the pointers, I agree with the choice of blue tac as well, as I find that magician's wax leaves wax stuff stuck on the coin for ages.
Thanks, Owen |
