I'm working on a routine along the lines of an ID where the spectators card appears as if it had been burned.
For the handling, the "burnt card" still needs to be fully in-tact and handle/feel like a regular card. Basically, I'm going for the look of the Bicycle 1800 Vintage Deck, but more like the card was torched rather than weathered/old. Any ideas on how best to achieve this? If it means putting a flame to the cards, that's fine, but looking for any tips on how to apply the fire as the card still needs to handle normally. Thanks in advance |

Assuming your trick allows you to reuse the card, I'd actually burn a card, then scan it into the computer.
From there you can either print onto blank cards yourself if you've got the expertise and equipment OR you can use any of the custom deck makers by submitting your custom "burned back" and getting an entire deck (or multiple decks) of those cards made up. ------- Going with an actual burned back, here's some Jay Sankey advice: burn it with a lighter (but not too close) until it browns how you like it then IMMEDIATELY put it in a card press for 24 hours. When you take it out it will not be warped but will be perfectly straight and handle NEARLY as good as a regular card. It doesn't need to be a fancy card press either. I use 2 pieces of plexiglass and a couple of clamps purchased from Home Depot. Good luck.

Stevens advice sounds great. I made a piece of card look old and aged by staining it with a tea bag and burning it on a panini brevel. I guess on any kind of pan would do. Could try putting it on a hot pan so the level of burn is reasonable even, might help it handle easier. Trial and error otherwise.
Custom made deck sounds awsome though. Who makes them? |

You could print it onto photo paper, cut it out and stick it onto a regular card using spray mount. If the photo card is to thick you could try regular paper. In fact I may well have a go to see how it works out! Keith Hart
