Oh, and keep John Grisham out of this please. He's written at least, erm, one decent novel.

Well, if you piece them all together they probably have enough substance for one good book, I agree.

By the way, I believe it's against the law to record someone's phone conversations without their knowledge, at least in the U.S.

The UK answer to that is nuanced. But to be fair, nowhere in Wayne's account of events does he mention Craig. We could make a different thread about David Penn, but I doubt the mods would let it stand.

There are some "two-party" states where you need to inform the other party that you are recording them. However their permission is not required - ever. If they don’t wish to be recorded they can end the call. US law addresses notification, not permission. BTW all of that is in reference to telephone recording, not wiretapping. Jim |

Jim,
I did not say permission was required. I said the party that's being recorded needs to be informed. Once they are informed, they can continue or hang up. I did not mention wiretapping. I said "record[ing] phone conversations" (no wiretap being needed). I believe I am correct about secretly recording a phone conversation being against the law, but if you are a lawyer, I'll defer to your opinion. Ray |

Here's what I was able to find out online about the legality of secretly recording phone conversations:
"Federal law allows recording of phone calls and other electronic communications with the consent of at least one party to the call. A majority of the states and territories have adopted laws based on the federal standard. But 12 states, including California, require the consent of all parties to the call under most circumstances. These are are California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Washington." |

SOOOOOOOO...... anyone actually watch this week's WPR?
Good banter between Craig and Dave, and I like the idea of future "field reports" from Craig testing out products. I thought a lot of time was wasted on the review of the product they gave 1% and 0% to. Didn't need to say it was bad 10 different ways. Could have been covered in a just a couple minutes total. |

Sorry to get back on topic, but just watched the latest WPR and I like it a lot more with Craig than without -- both Craig's performance and he makes Dave better to I think.

I am unfamiliar with the controversy over "RED." I've purchased a few of Petty's products in the past, two coin sets and a couple of DVDs. I've also bought a couple of Penn's products, a wallet and a topit. Nothing to complain about there.
I watched the WPR a couple of times, but felt that Petty was too bombastic for my taste and Penn was just plain incomprehensible at times. The show just seemed more about the reviewers than the products, and so I stopped watching it. |
