Recently I came across this very very small booklet/pamphlet at an internet shop named Midwest Magic. The book is Techno Card Magic by Daniel Rhod. The author is French but the book is in English. The book I bought was, alas, the last copy MM had but if you ever run across it...I highly recommend you BUY IT! It is, perhaps, the best short reference on card sleights I have ever seen. While only a scant 48 pages it contains the sleights you're most likely to encounter (but not always described) in nearly every one of the book reviews posted in this section. Plus there are tips on performance and getting critiqued as well.
The contents: Grips: Standard dealing position Biddle Vertical Straddle Bevel Slip-cut Breaks: Holding a break Forming a top card break All the various thumb, pinkie and base of palm breaks. Counts: Jordan Elmsley (of course) Kardyro-Biddle Move Hamman Count Other Chapters: Buckles Pull-Downs Swing Cuts (single and multiple) Transfer cuts: In the hands double cut Revers double under-cut Top crd control Slip Cuts Flushtration moves The Tilt ATFUS Ascanio Spread Full Deck False Shuffle Although not the absolute best, the book is loaded with essential photos to give you the idea of what grip will basically look like from your point of view. And there's even a list of common mistakes in card magic to look for. Is it as complete as Card College? No. But for a single smallish volume it packs quite an impressive punch. |

One more thing. It last costed about $10 or £9 (it is available in the U.K. at Alakazam).
