My client office had a talent show at their holiday party. Most of the people know I do stand-up comedy (and assumed that would be my talent for the show), so I surprised with some magic. Started with the Kellar rope tie and finished with Wayne Houchin's French Kiss (for a crowd of maybe one-hundred). I'm far from the best performer (I learned a lot of things to improve on just by watching the video), but everyone sure had fun - which is what magic should be.

John you did a great job, and most of all it did appears that the people watching had a super time! Way to go!

Great performance, simple, relaxed. Nothing was rushed and you have a very likeable on stage personality, I dig it.

Hi John, very nice performance. Kiss as stand up looks like a winner. Will try it soon!

Many thanks for the nice words.
Tommy, the line I used regarding the three skills for a magician was from John Lovick's Penguin lecture (while introducing a four Ace routine) - I took it a little further and noted that the needed skills are pretty much the same as those needed for other traditional professions. Hope it works well for you!

It went over well but I eventually turned it around to make fun of myself. I said the three skills were the same as when I was selling used cars for a living. Everyone pretty much relates to that comment and it does not run the risk of offending someone in their chosen profession. Unless of course, they are a used car salesman. But then again, they (used car salesmen), would be quick to agree with the observation.
