Morning,
I recently got talked in to appearing in a panto at a local theater (as you do). Right at the end the wicked witch needs to vanish off stage... only no one's entirely sure how to do it. I occasionally dabble with the odd trick and have been quietly trying to think of a good way to achieve this. There's nothing solid on the stage that could be used to block an audience's view, only angled blackout curtains in the wings so the audience can't see in. Pepper's Ghost came to mind (the witch gets off stage somehow, reappears as the ghost, delivers her lines from the wings and vanishes). Unfortunately, that's pretty much all I've got. Can anyone point me in the right direction for similar illusions / interesting people vanishing tricks? If anyone can point to some silly gimmicks etc that require no skill just for the witch's 'magic' tricks that would be great too. |

Instead of looking for an expensive illusion prop (like Pepper's Ghost) you should be first considering inexpensive theatrical methods of accomplishing the same thing - black out lighting (The Wizards' Journal #6 - Fabled Cloak of Invisibility) - costume vanishes (PVC Pipe Illusions Book 2 - Vampire Cape Vanish) - or even a simple levitation vanish (Wizards' Journal #17 - Vampire Levitation). For inexpensive witch magic tricks, check out the Dollar Store Magic Book One in "Broomstick Witchcraft."

Hi Jim,
They look great. www.magicnook.com is your site? Time to spend a few dollars... Thanks again for the pointer. This is all new to me. |

That site has some really fun-looking stuff. And inexpensive, too.
And I agree, it's better to use stagecraft than spend a fortune on an expensive illusion.
